Only some of these events are produced by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Most are being created and sponsored by other groups and agencies.  Being listed here does not mean that we have reviewed the material contained.  We are trying to provide a variety of resources to hopefully help make your life a little easier.  For additional information on any of these items before or after the event please contact the organizer directly (listed in the item description).

FDSA Workshop – Starts 6/21/20 (7 days of workshop, final wrap-up on 7/1/20) – 7 Days to a More Confident Dog – Taught by: Julie Daniels (registration fee applies) – FDSA

FDSA Presents: Great for shelter dogs, dogs in foster or newly (or previously) adopted dogs. This class focuses on confidence, optimism and empowerment for dogs. We'll build Value for Novelty, Noise, Strangeness, and the Unexpected. We'll use Snuffle Boxes, Noise Tubes, Physical Play, Push-Back, and Humor. We'll use the Broccoli Principle and the Curiosity Principle and the game of Surprise! Who knew scary sights and sounds could be funny, and even attractive? We'll work up to a game of Seek the Strange. You'll see it happen that working in one area will have positive transfer to another.

Join us as we cover how the ASPCA Adoption Center and Kitten Nursery have leveraged their foster volunteer pool and trained them to work with fearful kittens using scientifically proven techniques. This webinar will take a deep dive into the “Lion Tamers” program with a spotlight on behavior best practices. The AAWA Presents: People are difficult for a variety of reasons. Some of those reasons are universal and apply to all people (like the responses of those who feel threatened or injured – remember: hurt people hurt other people).  Some reasons are particular to a group of people, like those who externalize the causes of their misfortune onto others, or people who have a mental illness like paranoia.  Some reasons for being difficult are particular to a person, like an individual who has a difficult personality style.

Maddie's Fund/Million Cat Challenge Present: "Opening up does not mean the outbreak is winding down. It means there is space for you in the ICU." - Dr. Scott Weese. Re-opening shelters and services brings the risk of COVID-19 resurgence. A holistic strategy is needed to implement new measures and change the internal culture so that staff understand and buy in to this prolonged "new normal." The Toronto Humane Society's new strategy, designed to keep staff and public safe, provide a roadmap for reopening that can be customized for shelters and clinics everywhere.
