Ethology is the scientific and objective study of how animals behave in the real world. This course will teach you the core concepts of ethology — how animals see their world\, and why they behave the way they do. \nYou’ll learn how the environment\, individual personality\, and genetics all interact. This course is great for anyone new to ethology\, working or interested in sheltering\, zoos\, training\, and behavior\, and everyone interested in getting the most out of their relationship with a companion animal\, personal or professional. \nEthology is the study of animal behavior and its evolution\, and is a key factor in having true expertise in the understanding of animals. \n\nHow do animals see and interact with their world?\nWhat does this mean in terms of how they behave?\nHow will this change and enhance your understanding of behavior?\nHow can this understanding dramatically improve your ability to work with\, and help animals?\nAn understanding of ethology\, and the exploration of these questions will forever change how you think about the animals we live and work with.\n\nWHAT IS A DOG? THE ETHOLOGY OF OUR BEST FRIEND \nEthology is the scientific and objective study of animal behavior under natural conditions. In short\, it’s the study of how animals behave in the real world. \nThis course takes a deep dive into our understanding of dogs as a species\, and therefore how we live with them and train them\, how they learn\, and how we can best solve behavioral issues if they arise. \nTo address these questions we will consider: \n\nThe interplay between canine domestication\, evolution\, and behavior\nDevelopment in dogs: birth through adulthood\nThe perceptual world of the dog and how it impacts behavior\nHow dogs approach and solve problems in their environment\nThe role of genetics in behavior\nThe behavior of free-ranging dogs\n\nYou will come away from this course with an even deeper appreciation and wonder for these amazing animals we live with. You’ll never look at dogs—or dog training—quite the same way again. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://iaabcfoundation.org/courses/canine-ethology-bundle/

SUMMARY:Online Course - 1/18/23 - Surrender Prevention Certification Workshop - Community Cats Podcast (small fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:As a Surrender Prevention Specialist\, you may be the difference between a cat losing her home and staying in her home. The workshop is offered three times in 2023 and the cost to register is just $10. \nThe session duration is 1.5 hours\, followed by an optional 15-minute Q&A session. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.communitycatspodcast.com/events/surrender-prevention-certification-workshop-january-2023/

SUMMARY:Online Course – Starts 2/15/23 – What Is a Dog? The Ethology of Our Best Friend – IAABC (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Ethology is the scientific and objective study of animal behavior under natural conditions. \nCourse Begins: February 15\, 2023 \nDuration: 4 weeks \nInstructor: Kristina Spaulding\, PhD\, CAAB \n** IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT ONLINE WEEKLY MEETINGS ** \n\nAuditors do not attend online meetings\nMeetings are not recorded\nMeetings take place on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm Eastern (first meeting February 22nd)\nMeetings are 1 hour in duration\nThere are 4 meetings for this course\n\nWEBSITE LINK:  https://iaabcfoundation.org/courses/what-is-a-dog/
