Don’t forget to add the dates to your calendar to ensure you don’t miss out on any sessions. \n\n\nAbout the Host \nJyothi Robertson is a student of meditation practice for 40+ years and trauma-sensitive grounding practices formally for the past three years. She was raised by parents who practice meditation and lead spiritual teachings for members of their Indian community. She began pursuing her own formal exploration of spirituality as an anthropology major at Princeton University and conducted fieldwork for her thesis while living at an ashram (spiritual center) in India in 1996. As a veterinarian\, she is interested in highlighting the spiritual connection between all living beings. \nJyothi has completed certifications in trauma-sensitive mindfulness\, advanced trauma-sensitive meditation\, deep listening\, DEI\, and since 2019\, has been receiving training in Buddhist meditation practices and philosophy. Learn how to identify triggers\, create tailored behavior modification plans\, and implement practical strategies that support the well-being of shelter dogs while enhancing safety and adoption success. \nGuest Speaker: Ferdie Yau \nFerdie Yau (MA\, CPDT-KA) is an animal trainer and ecologist who founded Sits & Wiggles Dog Training in New York City in 2009. He specializes in treating complex canine behavior problems and consults with animal shelters nationwide. He is the Staff Trainer at the Humane Society of Westchester and lead workshop instructor for CATCH Canine Trainers Academy. Before working with dogs\, Ferdie trained cooperative care behaviors with dozens of species at the Wildlife Conservation Society in New York and developed the behavior and enrichment plan to treat stereotypies in the Central Park Zoo polar bears. He holds a BS in Ecology from the University of Michigan and an MA in Conservation Biology from Columbia University. His experience includes working in environmental education\, wildlife rehabilitation\, jaguar research and conservation\, and restoring heavily disturbed forest and aquatic ecosystems. DESCRIPTION:Difficult lifesaving decisions can divide an organization and jeopardize team spirit. Strong leadership is essential to navigate these decisions and gain buy-in from staff and volunteers. At Cincinnati Animal CARE\, they have found a way to bring their team along and allow them to become part of the process from beginning to end. Through transparency\, open lines of communication\, clear action items\, and an “everyone’s welcome” attitude\, they have developed a supportive and respectful culture that has resulted in a 95% live release rate since 2020\, even as a municipal shelter with more than 4\,000 dogs and 4\,000 cats arriving each year. The buy-in from staff\, volunteers\, and foster caregivers has resulted in more efficiency from a more united team. The CAC team is now focused on lifesaving rather than criticizing and fighting.
