SUMMARY:Webinar - 5/26/22 - Off-Leash Skills for Puppies with Erin Lynes - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Having a puppy off leash can be a nerve-wracking affair! But being able to have your little one safely off leash provides a lot of freedom\, helps prevent over-extending their leash skills\, and allows for the best type of natural exercise for a growing body. \nBut isn’t this a super advanced skill? Isn’t this too hard for puppies? \nNo and no! \nPuppies have some genetic pre-programming that means off-leash training is actually easier when you start earlier! Baby puppies have stronger social motivations\, stronger instincts to follow\, and lack competing reinforcement history from the environment – all factors that help make off leash walks and recalls much easier to introduce sooner than later\, and change with time and experience to make off-leash training harder to start from scratch. \nThis webinar will cover several strategies to help you build your puppy’s off leash skills from the ground up\, will help your recognize developmental milestones that will mean changing your strategy as your puppy ages\, and help you discover the benefits of a shared trust that comes when both you and your puppy are comfortable in off-leash situations. The skills covered in this webinar include recall\, attention\, and boundaries as they relate to being off leash. We’ll also discuss the types of environments that you’ll want to seek out to best teach these skills and the types of challenges that you’ll want to be aware of and plan for\, depending on your puppy’s genetics! Finally\, we’ll discuss under what conditions a particular puppy may not be ready for off-leash training. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/self-study/webinars

SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/8/22 - Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Zoomies: Shelter Intake Meets Capacity for Care - ASPCAPro
DESCRIPTION:With shelter populations reaching pre-pandemic numbers\, leadership and staff are asking themselves the age-old question: “How can we ensure the number of animals in our shelter does not exceed our capacity for care while still serving our community?” \nOne answer suggested to help control the number of animals entering the shelter is managed intake. The panel will also answer pre-submitted and live questions from the audience. \n\n\n\nTakeaways \n\n\nDiscuss misconceptions surrounding “managed intake.”\nLearn how communities can benefit from collaborative efforts to decrease intake.\nDiscover programs and tactics to help decrease intake\, including self-rehoming and veterinary\, behavior\, and pet food support.\nGet answers to your most pressing questions.\n\n\n\n\nPresenters \nNadia Novik\, Chief Operations Officer at the Idaho Humane Society\nMelissa Winn\, Center Manager\, Anchorage Animal Care & Control\nShelbi Waters \, Executive Director\, Souris Valley Animal Shelter \nSuited For \n\nAnimal welfare leaders and staff working in the Northern Tier (Alaska\, Idaho\, Minnesota\, Montana\, North Dakota\, Washington\, and Wisconsin)\, but all are welcome. \n\n\n\nCredits \n\nThe ASPCA is an approved provider of content\, which enhances professional competence and aligns with the 5 domains of the CAWA Exam specification. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.aspcapro.org/training/webinar/northern-tier-shelter-initiative-zoomies-shelter-intake-meets-capacity-care

SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/9/22 - Coping with Canine Cognitive Dysfunction: How to Provide the Best Care for Our Dogs and Ourselves - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Note: Attendees will also receive a FREE copy of Eileen’s current ebook on CCD as well as a copy of the second edition when it comes out via their webinar library. \nCanine cognitive dysfunction is a tough disease. It sneaks up on our dogs in the guise of normal aging—then we realize that something may be really wrong. As symptoms progress\, we can feel that we are losing our dogs before they ever pass away. \nBut many dogs with CCD can still live enriched lives. Some can profit from medical treatment. There is no cure\, but early recognition of the disease can give owners better tools to help their dogs and themselves. \nEileen will discuss the disease\, its prevalence\, and currently known risk factors. She’ll draw from her own experience and many years in the CCD community to provide information on changing the dog’s environment—and the owner’s mindset—to better cope with the disease. \nFinally\, she will provide resources on euthanasia and grief. These topics loom large for any guardian of a dog with CCD. This always painful decision can be even more difficult for people when the dog involved is mentally deteriorating but physically healthy. \nAdvanced canine cognitive dysfunction is rarely short of devastating. But there are things we can do to feel less alone in our situation and to help our dogs on this journey. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/self-study/webinars

SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/16/22 - Finder to Foster to Adoption: Keeping Animals in the Community - CalAnimals
DESCRIPTION:In the right situations\, stray animals found by community members can be quickly and legally moved from stray to foster status\, and then adopted out\, without ever entering local shelters. While shelter personnel involvement is integral to this process\, the burdens on shelters\, and the stressors to the animals\, can be reduced to a minimum. There has been some confusion about the right (legal) way to run such a program\, as well as how to do it with the greatest chance of success for animals\, in a short time frame\, and with minimal impact on the shelter staff and community. This webinar will lay out best practices for “Foster-Finder” programs\, that will benefit all involved. \n\n\nPresenters: Bruce Wagman\, Attorney\, and Cindi Delany\, DVM \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_3vKMm5FuQl2uT78edazuCQ

SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/16/22 - Troubleshooting Challenges - Separation Related Behavior Problems (SRBP) - GoodPup
DESCRIPTION:The GoodPup Webinar Series focuses on dog behavior topics designed specifically to help anyone who works at rescues and shelters. This presentation is free and open to anyone in your community including staff\, volunteers\, fosters and adopters. \nIn this webinar we’ll talk about how to assess separation related behaviors; how to prevent and treat them. \nAnyone who has personal experience with separation related behavior problems knows how overwhelming and frustrating they can be in addition to worrying about the stress the dog is experiencing when left alone. The good news is we can help decrease this stress\, ultimately helping to resolve the behavioral concerns coinciding with it. In this webinar we’ll talk about how to assess separation related behaviors; how to use management for prevention; and how to begin training in order to change the emotional stress some dog’s experience when left by themselves. If you have a dog or work with dogs presenting with separation related behavior problems\, I invite you to join us and learn how to get this process started. \nPresenter: Kait Hembree VTS (Behavior)\, CVT\, KPA CTP\, Head of Training at GoodPup \nKait Hembree and her team designed the GoodPup Training Program using the latest scientific research and positive reinforcement training techniques. Kait’s career in Animal Behavior spans decades. She has extensive experience working with behavior modification both in and outside veterinary practices and animal shelters. She regularly consults as a dog behavior expert across the country. \nAbout GoodPup:\nGoodPup is a positive reinforcement dog training service.
