SUMMARY:Webinar - 9/19/22 - DPFL Dog Playgroups Part 1: The Why - Getting 2 Zero
DESCRIPTION:Learn about all the ways in which Dogs Playing For Life Playgroups are transforming shelters all across the USA. \nIn this first of three webinars\, we will present powerful examples of how playgroups can not only enhance the quality of life for your shelter dogs\, but how focusing on their quality of life through enrichment can lead to game-changing benefits to your shelter’s everyday operations. \nAttendees will get to view dynamic video examples and impactful data and experiences from some of the nearly 300 shelters that have embraced the power of letting shelter dogs play! \nThis webinar is one of three that will be delivered over the coming months. \nTo learn more about DPFL go to https://dogsplayingforlife.com \nPresenter: Aimee Sadler \nAimee is the Founder and CEO of Dogs Playing for Life (DPFL). With 35 years of experience working with multiple species in varying venues\, Aimee has become an internationally recognized trainer and speaker specializing in shelter programs that enhance quality of life and reduce canine euthanasia in animal shelters. The cornerstone of DPFL’s programming is our Every Dog\, Every Day!\, an out-of-kennel enrichment model that is in increasing demand and has been introduced to over 300 shelters across the U.S. and Canada. DPFL’s measured programming is contributing to safer shelter environments by reducing dog-human bites while increasing canine lifesaving at an average rate of 4% at participating shelters. Starting in 2017\, dogs most at risk of behavioral euthanasia can get a second chance at DPFL’s Canine Center Florida\, an advanced training and behavior care center with an overall save rate of 86 percent. \nAimee has regularly presented at animal welfare and professional dog training conferences such as HSUS’ Animal Expo\, Best Friend’s Annual Conferences\, Masters in Behavior Conference\, and the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) Conferences. DPFL was the inaugural recipient of Petco Foundation’s Love in Action Award. In 2016\, DPFL was featured in Episode 4 of the PBS television series\, “Shelter Me.” \nAimee is a proud recipient of the Henry Bergh Leadership Award and the Maddie’s Hero Award and has been inducted into the Members Hall of Fame for the IACP. Aimee currently resides in Longmont\, CO\, with her husband and family. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.g2z.org.au/g2z-webinars-and-online-events.html

SUMMARY:Webinar - 9/27/22 - Stop & Smell the PeeMail: Everyday Sniffing as Slow Thinking\, Social Problem-Solving & Healing from Trauma - PPG (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will offer a deep dive into the everyday practice of canine sniffing—not organized nose or scent work\, but the behavior dogs constantly engage in when left to their own devices out in the backyard or just walking down the block. Sniffing is critical to canine welfare because dogs navigate the world first and foremost through their noses. Smelling is dogs’ most ancient sense and they have evolved a remarkable olfactory anatomy to maximize this. We have all heard about the ability of dogs to sniff out explosives\, drugs\, human remains and even biological disease. But did you also know that sniffing functions as a central form of cognition for dogs not to mention an important mode of social problem-solving. It is even essential for dogs’ recovery from emotional trauma. I will guide viewers through the world of ordinary sniffing by looking at the most recent science as well as offering real-life case studies of sniffing’s transformative power. This will include a component on sniffing for horses because our equine partners love to sniff\, too! \nIf you can’t make it to the live session. No worries! \nAll webinar recordings are sent via email 48-72 hours after the live session. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nIncreased understanding of dogs’ and horses’ normal sniffing behavior including its cognitive & emotional benefits.\nIncreased understanding of sniffing’s centrality to the welfare of all dogs\, not just those engaged in scent sports or who work in scent detection of any kind.\nIncreased understanding of how to enable sniffing and scenting opportunities for the average household dog as well as horses and make it an important part of their daily lives.\n\nCEUs: PPAB 1.5\, CCPDT (pending)\, IAABC (pending)\, KPA (pending) \nAbout the Presenter:  \nDr. Laura Donaldson is a Professor Emeritus from Cornell University located Ithaca\, New York\, United States. She is an award-winning writer on dog training and behavior who has worked as a canine behavior specialist for over 16 years. Laura is a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC)\, a Karen Pryor Certified Training Partner (KPA CTP) and a Certified Control Unleashed Instructor (CCUI). She founded Four Paws\, Four Directions Dog Training & Behavior Consulting LLC as well as the very popular Slow Thinking is Lifesaving for Dogs® program. Dr. Donaldson also offers a Thinkific-based webinar on Trauma and Aggression in Dogs. SUMMARY:Webinar - 9/29/22 - Lost Cats and Found Hounds: Community-based Solutions to Boost Your Return-to-Owner Metrics - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:How many lost pets are coming into your local animal shelter in an average year? In Virginia\, public animal shelters receive thousands of lost pets each year\, with many of them never being reclaimed. In response\, Loudoun County Animal Services initiated a series of programs to help lost pets find their way back home\, simultaneously identifying and reaching out to the communities least likely to reclaim lost pets. This webinar will take you through the budget-friendly process they implemented to get lost pets back home\, and help you keep owned pets with their families\, saving room at the shelter for animals who need it most. \nThis webinar has been certified by the National Animal Care & Control Association and is approved for 1 Continuing Education Unit. Please refer to your NACA membership portal for current CEU submission process. Current NACA Members who attend the live presentation or watch the recording will be able to download a jointly issued attendance certificate that includes the National Animal Care & Control Association logo. Visit the NACA training page for a complete list of future trainings. \nPresenter: Nina Stively is the Director of Loudoun County Animal Services in northern Virginia\, an independent government agency that includes the County animal shelter and a team of sworn humane law enforcement officers. Nina is a Certified Animal Cruelty Investigator\, a Certified Animal Welfare Administrator\, and an Animal Control Officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia. She is a self-professed cat person\, but is currently training for a canine biathalon with one of her adopted dogs\, Whistlepig. Nina shares her home with two very supportive humans\, six chickens\, two cats\, three dogs\, and an assortment of foster animals. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/lost-cats-and-found-hounds-community-based-solutions-to-boost-your-return-to-owner-metrics/
