DESCRIPTION:Feeding a dog in the presence of an eliciting stimulus is often masked as counter conditioning him. When it doesn´t work we label the process as ineffective or assume it’s not the best choice for that particular dog or situation. But the only times counter conditioning doesn’t work is if it’s not counter conditioning\, if it’s not performed correctly\, or if there is some physiological or neurological process inhibiting learning. \nThere are pillars that support a counter conditioning procedure. Novelty\, salience\, contingency\, contiguity and timing are the main ones. Similarly\, there are factors – mainly human error – that hinder the process. DESCRIPTION:Program overview:  This series of educational modules will prepare participants to manage playgroups using the LIMA ethical standard and use conspecific interactions for behavior modification. \nCohort structure: Learners will be invited to join a cohort that will meet virtually for four months via the Litmos LMS platform.  Each cohort will be invited to twice-monthly (bi-weekly) hour-long\, live meetings via Zoom webinar so that questions can be answered live.  The bi-weekly meetings will feature video analysis and discussion of relevant topics. \nRegistration process: Individuals interested in joining each cohort must submit an “e-mail of interest” which includes the organization to which you belong to the executive director\, Mara Velez requesting to be added to the upcoming cohort. Each person must login at least twice a month and complete modules in order to continue. \nCompletion timeframe: Learners will be expected to complete one module per week\, which will require 60-90 minutes per week. The program consisting of Foundation and Intermediate modules will be expected to be completed within a four month time-frame. The total seat time per week is estimated to be two to two and a half hours\, which is a combination of reviewing the modules and completing assessments and assignments. \nOther requirements: In order to complete the assignments\, learners must have access to at least two species of animals during the cohort period (e.g.\, dogs\, cats\, rabbits\, birds\, horses). DESCRIPTION:Join Sue and Trish for a four-part mini course on talking to clients and shelter workers and volunteers about behavioral euthanasia\, and learn how to approach this sensitive topic with people who never thought they’d be faced with such a difficult decision. \nIn week one\, we will explore the issues surrounding behavioral euthanasia\, what may be going on for your clients\, and how you can approach this for yourself. In week two\, we explore the ethics around alternatives to behavioral euthanasia. In week three\, we work through the process of discussing behavioral euthanasia with your clients – including empathetic words to use\, as well as those to avoid. In our final week\, we will go through the days before\, the day of and the days following a behavioral euthanasia. \nWeekly classes are held during two timeslots: Thursdays at 10 AM and 7 PM Eastern Standard Time. Having a background in numbers has helped her develop innovative\, successful social media strategies specifically for animal care & control organizations with highly successful results increasing visibility & reach to improve online reputations through social networking platforms. \nIn 2016\, Angelina was awarded the first social media contract for Sonoma County Animal Care & Control increasing their Facebook page likes from 4K to 25K\, engagement rate from 500 to 150K (average)\, 2.2M during disaster-related events\, and contributed to increasing live animal release rate from 82% to 91%\, saving thousands of animals lives. From 2016 through 2020 Sonoma County went through 4 major disaster related events. After working through so many disasters and emergencies\, while being mentored by an experienced operations manager\, she also successfully researched\, designed\, and implemented a successful disaster preparedness plan for the online community and their companion animals. \nAngelina has also created educational webinars to help other animal shelters and animal response teams become more prepared for future events. DESCRIPTION:We live in a noisy world and dogs are very sensitive to sound. They can hear a much broader range of frequencies than humans can so it should be no surprise that noise sensitivity is common in dogs. Noise sensitivity encompasses fear\, anxiety\, and phobic-based responses to a range of sounds\, including loudness\, pitch\, and suddenness. Nearly half of families report that their dog shows at least one sign of fear when exposed to unusual\, loud or sudden noises. Noise sensitivity\, left untreated\, generally gets progressively worse over time. Early diagnosis and intervention is critical to prevent anxiety and fear from escalating. In this webinar we will discuss the range of sounds dogs may be sensitive to as well as how genetics\, age and concurrent health problems may make sound sensitivity worse. We will also cover the cruciality of early diagnosis and intervention and effective treatment strategies. \nAbout the Presenter\nDr. Jill E. Sackman is a Diplomate of both the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists and the American College of Veterinary Surgeons. She is the owner and founding veterinarian of Animal Behavior Consultants of Michigan\, a referral veterinary behavior practice with offices in metro-Detroit\, Grand Rapids\, and Northern Michigan. Dr. Sackman is Fear Free certified and a Family Paws educator. She sees pets with behavior disorders that range from mild fears to extreme anxiety\, aggression\, compulsive disorders\, sound sensitivities and separation anxiety.
