SUMMARY:Webinar - 8/6/20 - Anatomy of Attention: When the VAN ran over DAN\, and other tales with Suzanne Clothier (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:In the dog training community\, a great deal of effort goes into teaching dogs “attention.” But what does that mean? Staring into the handler’s eyes? Moving in an abnormal position gazing at a toy? Ignoring all distractions? Maintaining focus? Working for hours on end? Be willing to eat all the chicken and cheese we dole out? Is a dog’s attention span based on his age\, sex\, or breed? \nHowever we may define it\, here’s the reality: We can get frustrated and confused when a dog doesn’t (can’t?) focus\, or won’t give us his attention no matter how much we know or how good our timing may be. We’re smart trainers\, so we know it’s not dominance or being stubborn or blowing us off but sometimes\, we’re left scratching our own heads and asking\, “What’s really going on in that dog’s head?” \nLet’s take a deep dive into Attention\, which is an awfully big\, vague label for many complex interactions and networks in the mammalian brain. At any given moment\, a dog’s brain (like yours!) is juggling: \n\ndifferent types of attention\nalertness and arousal\nsensory sensitivities and deficits\ninternal and external factors\nfocus and distractions\nindividual attention span\n\nUnderstanding what’s at work in that canine brain (and your own\, and your clients!) helps you make good choices for the dogs in our hands. \nWe’ll look at: \n\nthe 4 main functions of conscious attention\ncognitive resources\nexpending a limited commodity\nhow expectations and salience affect attention\nwhat captures attention?\ntemperament and sensory awareness\nto Carnegie Hall and beyond (the value of practice)\n\nWhen you are clear what factors may be at work with any individual dog\, it becomes easier to select appropriate techniques\, use thinner slices\, shift your expectations or simply help the handler see what the dog is saying and doing. \nCEUs pending for IAABC and PPAB. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/1439731719991392012?source=IAABC

SUMMARY:Webinar - 8/11/20 - Getting Started with Managed Intake - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:In any open admission facility\, one of the largest challenges faced is intake.  The unpredictability of what may be coming into your facility and how it will enter leaves many of us walking in first thing in the morning with no idea how to plan our day. Animal welfare\, just like any other business\, needs to be able to have some method of planning for what is coming so that we can ensure we have what we need to handle the situation.  We all know emergencies arise and we are all masters at flying by the seat of our pants\, but are we doing that more than we need to?  This session will discuss how some agencies have transitioned their intake model to allow for increased planning surrounding intake and thereby created an opportunity to increase the number of lives saved. \nThis is the first of a two-part series. \n\nAug 11: Getting Started with Managed Intake (this webinar)\nOct 1:  Enhancing Your Managed Intake Process\n\n  \n \nThe National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA) was formed in 1978 for the express purpose of assisting its members to perform their duties in a professional manner. We believe only carefully selected and properly trained animal control personnel can correct community problems resulting from irresponsible animal ownership. NACA’s purpose is to preserve the Human/Animal Bond by insisting on responsible animal ownership. \n  \nPresenters: \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Josh Fisher has an educational background in population management/medicine\, public health\, veterinary sciences\, informatics\, and healthcare administration.  He has been working in the veterinary medical/animal welfare field for over 15 years holding management roles in private practices\, corporate practices\, the NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine\, county government\, and now as the Animal Services Director for the City of Charlotte/Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. \nA strong advocate for professional development and growth in the animal welfare industry\, Josh seeks to involve staff in continued education and training opportunities as well as in cutting edge industry research.  His professional interests focus on disease reduction/prevention\, advanced marketing/placement and intake reduction tactics\, strategic planning\, and staff career development in the area of animal welfare.  His projects include increasing interest of veterinary/veterinary technician students in the animal welfare industry as well as working with community veterinarians to break down barriers\, develop relationships\, and increase involvement in community-focused animal welfare (animal control and sheltering) practices. \nIt is a passion of Josh’s to bring a level of awareness to the animal welfare industry in such a way that young adults and college students make the decision to pursue animal welfare as a profession rather than falling into it by chance. \nWEBSITE LINK: https://justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/getting-started-with-managed-intake/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 8/12/20 - How to Use the Found Animals system to Benefit Your Life-Saving Efforts - AmPa!
DESCRIPTION:In this session\, we will jump into a hands-on approach to using the Michelson Found Animals free registry to manage the animals you foster\, or pull from local shelters. Shelter personnel that oversee rescue and foster networks will also benefit from this. This session will be in three parts: \n1. Explain and review microchips costs\, why Found Animals is 100% free\, and review our mission to be a partner in life-saving efforts. \n2. In this section\, we will invite one person that oversees a rescue or a foster network that does NOT use Found Animals. I will do a quick interview and learn more about their mission\, and walk them through how a free account with us can save time\, effort\, and money. We’ll walk through creating an account together\, adding animals\, and processing a transfer of ownership (adoption) over to another user. In short\, this will be a practical exercise that everyone can follow along with and leave the webinar with a clear understanding of how Found Animals can help their organization\, big or small. \n3. Q&A with the attendees. This is pretty self-explanatory and will add a huge amount of value as unique questions will likely come up. This will help others have some “Aha” moments and see how FA best fits into their program. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_mK9-M0C5R-2ByhiS_rpxUA?fbclid=IwAR1fuos7xBefdCNlsMeUWH941LWpYNYOiYmqTAKW3o3sgy1UeQ4WN1cfIEw

SUMMARY:Webinar - 8/13/20 - Thinking Differently About Websites - Virox
DESCRIPTION:There is a fundamental mistake that we all too often make when thinking about websites: we speak to the wrong part of the brain. You might think that a pet owner is on your website to ask questions such as “who are you\, what do you do\, and where do you do it?” – but the real question they are asking is much older… “can I trust you?” In order to attract more high quality clients\, we must turn our attention towards the limbic system; the part of the brain that regulates emotions and social relationships. In this webinar\, you will learn a fundamentally different way of looking at your website\, and it just might change everything about your strategy. \nAbout the Presenter \nRobert is the founder and CEO of Digital Empathy\, an award-winning web design and marketing firm for veterinary practices. He believes marketing must begin with understanding the psychology of relationships and decision making. Robert has a background in philosophy\, which he believes instrumental in spotting hidden assumptions. Robert frequently lectures at national conferences\, leads a team of wonderful employees\, sits on the board of VetPartners\, and shares his home with two very spoiled dogs – Cole and Lula. \n< \nRobert Sanchez\nWebinar Host \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://event.webinarjam.com/register/127/oy8lptnv
