SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/6/22 - How Understanding Lost Cat Behavior Can Keep Them Out of the Shelter and Get Them Back Home Faster - HASS
DESCRIPTION:At a significant 75%\, the majority of cats brought into the shelter are classified as “stray.” Too many of these cats are lost but never reunited with their families because lost cat psychology is poorly misunderstood. Lost cats behave differently than lost dogs and by understanding how they think\, we can reduce unnecessary intake and get cats back home where they belong. \nJoin Monica Frenden-Tarant\, Maddie’s® Director of Feline Lifesaving\, and cat finder extraordinaire\, Kimberley Freeman\, for this live webinar where they will dispel myths\, explain the science behind lost cats\, and teach you what you need to know to reunite more lost cats with their families. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://zoom.us/webinar/register/3516397803265/WN_DJD-0dvdQyKZ1AhWP2viHA

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/6/22 - Strong Seniors: Exercises and Enrichment for your Aging Dog - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Is there anything more glorious than an ancient dog with a smile on their face? I can hardly think of anything that even comes close. One of the challenges we face as dog sports enthusiasts is finding ways to keep our retirees strong and filling their days with joy and meaning once they’ve past the point of regular sport training. \nThis webinar will look at the day to day lives of senior dogs and how we can make small changes to improve their safety and comfort as their body ages. This includes some household adaptations as well as gentle conditioning and exercise suggestions that target the areas that often tend to weaken first in older dogs. \nI will discuss two types of training that you want to consider for your aging pal. First we’ll look at proactive practical husbandry exercises that can reduce stress for both of you as care requirements increase and change with age. Then\, we’ll look at some frivolous training games -strictly for the fun factor- that can be adapted to various levels of mobility challenges. These can be especially handy for dogs where previously loved games like fetch are no longer a great idea. \nAdditionally\, I will introduce you to the concept of ‘No Two Days The Same’- where you can can combine the comfort of routine with varying enrichment opportunities to improve your dog’s behavioral diversity and keep their curiosity and optimism up! \nIf you’ve been wondering how to get that little twinkle back into your older dog’s eyes- or keep it there as long as possible- then this webinar is for you! \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/fdsa-calendar

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/8/22\, 1/15/22\, and 1/22/22 - Brainwork for Dogs: Teaching Cognitive Skills! - Puppyworks (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:A live webinar in three 2 1/2 hour sessions: \nSaturdays January 8\, 15 & 22\, 2022 \n9 AM PST/10 AM Central/12 PM EST \nProgram Premise \nAnimal cognition has long been associated with tool use\, and even tool making\, most famously in Jane Goodall’s study of chimpanzees. In the intro\, Pat shows numerous videos of animal tool use: a badger shifting the end a of large branch from the floor to above a wall to facilitate escaping an enclosure; a dog doing a little furniture moving to access a countertop; a bird stealing bread to successfully use as bait\, to catch a fish for dinner\, and incredible crows: one fashioning a straight thin metal rod into a hook to lift a wire handled glass out of a bucket. (Other crows are famed for placing nuts on roads to have passing cars crack the shells.) \nThe dog world has followed suit: Over the past decade-plus there has been a revolution in the world of dog behavior\, as canine cognition scientists such as Adam Miklosi\, Alexandra Horowitz\, Claudia Fugazza\, Brian Hare and others have explored abilities of the dog’s brain once thought to be far beyond the reach of our canine companions. \nPresenter \nPat Miller\, a past President of APDT\, has been training dogs for more than 35 years. She was a humane officer at the Marin Humane Society in California for 20 years and most recently trains as a CPDT and behavior consultant at her Peaceable Paws Dog and Puppy Training Center in Maryland\, home to her acclaimed Intern Academies. Pat is also APDT’s 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award winner. \nPat writes for\, and is Training Editor\, of The Whole Dog Journal and contributes to Your Dog (published by Tufts University Veterinary School). Her first dog training book\, The Power of Positive Dog Training (Howell Book House\, 2001) has been on Amazon.com’s “Top 10 Dog Training Books” list since January of 2002. Her other books are: Positive Perspectives\, Positive Perspectives 2\,  Play With Your Dog\, and “Do Over Dogs-Give Your Dog a Second Chance for a First Class Life”. \nHer most recent book: “Beware of the Dog: Positive Solutions for Aggressive Behavior in Dogs” (Dogwise Publishing\, 2017) is a practical road map to evaluating\, managing and modifying aggression in pet dogs. \nIn addition to this seminar\, you can find her books for sale at dogwise.com. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.puppyworks.com/brainwork

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/13/22 - Connection: How to Build Loose Leash Walking in Sport and Real Life with Shade Whitesel - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Wouldn’t it be awesome to let your dog out of the crate at the sports venue\, have them orientate directly to you with nary a glance around at the busy surroundings and walk perfectly with you to the ring entrance? Wouldn’t it be awesome to snap the leash onto your dog\, exit the front door and go for a nice neighborhood walk\, saying hi to the neighbors\, passing dogs\, cats and bicycles\, stopping for your dog to sniff every once in a while? Instead\, your arm and shoulder hurts from the constant pulling\, the constant yanking\, you keep a death grip on the leash 6 inches from the dog’s collar on the way to the ring\, you are embarrassed to exit the driveway\, let alone go for a walk around the neighborhood\, and you are looking sideways at the prong collars in the pet store aisle every time you go in to buy dog food. Want some strategies? Want some joint relief? Want the dog to act like they are following you\, rather than you following them? I’m not a total miracle worker\, but join me for this webinar and I’ll give you some skills to work on that will make walking much more enjoyable\, whether that is from Pt A to B in the competition venue or outside in the real world. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/self-study/webinars

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/13/22 - Enrichment: Keeping our Dogs Happy and Preventing Problems - GoodPup
DESCRIPTION:The GoodPup Webinar Series focuses on dog behavior topics designed specifically to help anyone who works at rescues and shelters. \nOne common problem we see is new dogs not getting enough mental or physical stimulation to satisfy their normal needs or what is known as “enrichment”. Without proper enrichment a dog can become bored\, anxious and stressed. This can lead to unwanted and dangerous behaviors\, such as chewing\, barking\, and digging\, destructive behaviors\, and even evasive behaviors both inside and outside the home. \nThe goal of our Webinar is to bring you some tips and tricks on how to build enrichment into your dog’s life and to leave you with some steps that help ensure your pup is set up for success! \nThis webinar is free to attend. You can view past webinars at https://goodpup.com/shelters \n\n\nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.eventbrite.com/e/goodpup-webinar-enrichment-keeping-our-dogs-happy-and-preventing-problems-tickets-228316218957
