SUMMARY:Webinar - 2/18/22 - Fancy Footwork: Practical Handling And Training Solutions For The Entire Shelter - Dogs Playing for Life
DESCRIPTION:While playgroups are the foundation of our shelter training program\, teaching shelter teams how to implement a generalized\, effective\, and enjoyable way to handle and train their dogs is another essential aspect of our canine programming! In this webinar\, we will teach the fundamentals of our “Fancy Footwork” techniques that focus on achieving good leash manners through the use of your FEET instead of your hands. Come learn this unique and highly effective approach that promotes dogs happily walking softly by your side\, offering tons of eye contact\, and wowing adopters! This new approach to leash work will enhance your handling skills and increase your ability to train ALL dogs\, even those that are highly aroused\, stressed\, fearful\, or not motivated by food\, all in an effort to improve quality of life and lifesaving for dogs living in shelters. \nAdditionally\, we will teach you how to implement our critically important kennel routines. The kennel areas of our nation’s shelters can be one of the most challenging and distressing environments that dogs–and their handlers–ever face. DPFL kennel routines have been developed and taught to shelters across the country in an effort to combat these challenges and to provide safer and more successful ways for dogs and people to maneuver through the kennels. \nThis is a 1.5-hour presentation followed by a Q&A session. This webinar will NOT be recorded and is scheduled on EASTERN TIME. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://dogsplayingforlife.com/webinars/

SUMMARY:Online Event - 2/23/22 - The Power of Sankofa - CARE
DESCRIPTION:The “Sankofa” is a metaphorical symbol used by the Akan people of Ghana\, generally depicted as a bird with its head turned backward taking an egg from its back. It teaches us we must reach back to value past knowledge in order to move forward. \nJoin James Evans and colleagues talk about things we could have learned from previous Civil rights movements and leaders to truly make progress. \nAnd like last year\, we are raising awareness around changing the 2% Black Veterinarian figure and raising funds for our Dr. Jodie G Blackwell Scholarship. ALL donations for January and February will go towards Veterinarian Scholarships for Black Students. (Photo Credit: Greenwood Cultural Center) \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://fb.me/e/2RAtMKKtE

SUMMARY:Webinar - 2/24/22 - Pets and Evictions: Keeping Families Intact in a Crisis - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 crisis has drawn into sharp focus the many difficulties that renters face\, including those who have pets. Unprecedented housing hardships are being felt throughout the country and not unlike past economic recessions\, news of sweeping evictions is becoming disturbingly familiar. There are tens of millions of families facing housing insecurity and who are at risk of homelessness due to lack of affordable and available housing for low-income renters as well as being severely housing cost-burdened\, meaning they spend more than 50% of their income on housing costs. \nToday\, an estimated 30–40 million renters are at risk of being evicted when moratoriums lift and with 72% of renters owning pets\, the number of animals displaced with their people could be catastrophic. For most\, pets are considered family members yet in many ways our society does not consider that important relationship in times of crisis. The human-animal bond offers countless mental and physical benefits\, and at a time when people are at risk of losing so much\, it’s critical for those tasked with enforcing an eviction to do everything within their power to help preserve and protect that relationship. \nIn this session\, you will learn about what considerations to make for pets when preparing eviction notices and enforcing eviction orders\, about the importance of companion animals for many families and stability they can provide for at-risk people in times of uncertainty\, and how to utilize your community’s resources to help keep pets and their families together. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/pets-and-evictions-keeping-families-intact-in-a-crisis/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 2/24/22 - Dentistry for Patients with Underlying Conditions - Think Anesthesia
DESCRIPTION:This presentation covers the importance of performing anesthetic dental procedures in patients with underlying conditions. Veterinary patients frequently present with periodontal or endodontic disease\, oral masses\, or other dental conditions while having one or more medical conditions. Since dentistry in veterinary patients requires anesthesia\, the veterinary clinician must perform an assessment on the risk versus benefit. Understanding the benefits of treatment of common dental conditions and discussing potential risks associated with anesthesia in high-risk patients may help. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.thinkanesthesia.education/live-webinar/2022/01/dentistry-for-patients-with-underlying-conditions

SUMMARY:Webinar - 2/25/22 - DPFL’s Approach to On-Leash Reactivity - Dogs Playing for Life
DESCRIPTION:Reactivity on the part of dogs living in shelters is a rampant issue that can contribute to behavioral deterioration\, increased length of stay\, and even loss of life. From a misdiagnosis of “aggression” to dogs whose reactive behavior escalates to problematic and potentially unsafe levels\, learning how to help dogs suffering from reactivity issues is a crucial need shared by our entire industry. \nWhile this webinar can be attended as a standalone course\, we highly recommend attending our Fancy Footwork webinar first. We will build on our Fancy Footwork approach to handling and training to offer practical training\, handling\, and safety solutions to on-leash reactivity for dogs living in shelters. \nThis is a 1.5-hour presentation followed by a Q&A session. This webinar will NOT be recorded and is scheduled on EASTERN TIME. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://dogsplayingforlife.com/webinars/
