SUMMARY:Webinar - 9/14/22 - Supported Self-Rehoming Without Surrendering: Setting Up Supportive Services with Safety and Success - HASS
DESCRIPTION:Approximately a quarter of animals enter animal shelters under the intake type called “owner surrender.” Pet parents often do not know how to safely and successfully rehome their pets themselves. Supported self-rehoming is a great way for organizations to give pet parents who can no longer keep their pets the tools they need to safely rehome their own pets with ongoing support from shelter staff and volunteers. Supported self-rehoming not only gives pet parents an opportunity to be a part of selecting a new family and the potential for continued communication after\, it also reduces the number of family pets who unnecessarily have to live in a kennel\, taking a valuable space away from another pet in need. \nJoin us for an info-packed webinar where our speakers\, Kaycey Adair from Greenville County Animal Services\, Ana De Luccia from Adopt-A-Pet and Lucy Fernandez from Austin Pets Alive!\, will highlight how organizations can begin offering supported self-rehoming options to pet parents who need it. They’ll also discuss ways to utilize social media and other technology solutions that fit your organization’s needs\, and best practices for communicating these programs to stakeholders and your community. Don’t miss it! \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://zoom.us/webinar/register/1116613782408/WN_3cfnr2dER96WQR7nECZc7w

SUMMARY:Grant Opportunity - 9/15/22 to 10/15/22 - Sniptember Spay/Neuter Grants - California for All Animals
DESCRIPTION:Let’s grow our spay/neuter capacity together\, California! \nWe’re doubling down on our commitment to help you provide the care and services that strengthen the bonds and remove the barriers between pets in your community and the people who care for them with Sniptember\, a 30-day spay/neuter grant blitz to continue the effort to build back our surgery capacity and relieve the bottlenecks that are keeping animals in our shelters for too long. \nMunicipal animal shelters\, private animal shelters with municipal contracts\, and private shelters are eligible to respond to this RFP\, even if they already received a California for All Animals grant this year. We know you have work to do so we’ve kept the application process simple: Submit your one-page proposal\, budget\, and estimated impact statement. \nVeterinary clinics and spay/neuter organizations without a brick and mortar intake facility are encouraged to partner with animal shelters on proposals. The shelter would act as the recipient of the funding and then contract with the spay/neuter organization for services. If you need help partnering with a shelter(s) in your region\, reach out to us at grants@californiaforallanimals.com and we’ll connect you. \nThe funding priority for this grant cycle is to increase capacity for spay/neuter services for animal shelters\, which is defined as spay/neuter of animals in the shelter\, referred by field services and those at risk of ending up in the shelter\, for example pet owners experiencing homelessness\, pet owners residing in zip codes of high intake\, and priority community animals. Operational costs associated with increasing capacity should be included in the proposal. \nRFPs will be accepted from September 15 – October 15\, 2022. Applicants will be notified via email by November 15\, 2022. For more information visit California for All Animals. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.californiaforallanimals.com/grants/sniptember-spay-neuter-grants/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 9/15/22 - Advanced Return to Owner in the Field: Beyond the scanner - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:Animal control officers are playing a much larger role today in the reduction of shelter intake by choosing to identify and return stray dogs to their families without bringing them into the shelter\, but all too often officers stop looking for an owner was they find that the animal has no ID tags or microchip. This workshop highlights successful efforts from agencies across the country that have shown to significantly increase the field RTO rate for those animals without obvious identification.   \nThis webinar has been certified by the National Animal Care & Control Association and is approved for 1 Continuing Education Unit. \nPresenters:\n\n\n\nNick Walton is the National Shelter Support Manager for Best Friends Animal Society\, providing leadership and training for strategic shelter partners across the country. Through Best Friends’ national shelter support program\, Nick conducts professional shelter operations and field assessments\, and leads progressive\, humane trainings for animal control agencies and officers.  \nPrior to joining Best Friends and serving as the behavior and training coordinator for the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Atlanta\, Nick spent several years working as an animal control officer for Fulton County Animal Services through LifeLine Animal Project. Through this work\, he served as Fulton County’s primary field training officer\, providing professional training and development to new officers and cultivating a community-oriented approach to animal services in order to help Atlanta become a no-kill city. \n \nNick’s many years of experience as a dog trainer and behavior specialist combined with his commitment to keeping pets safe at home through proactive neighborhood engagement have resulted in a deep expertise in and love for community-based lifesaving. Once known around town as “the Dog Food Man\,” he has a reputation for building trust and key relationships with lasting positive effects for both pets and people.  \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/advanced-return-to-owner-in-the-field-beyond-the-scanner/

DESCRIPTION:Learn about all the ways in which Dogs Playing For Life Playgroups are transforming shelters all across the USA. \nIn this first of three webinars\, we will present powerful examples of how playgroups can not only enhance the quality of life for your shelter dogs\, but how focusing on their quality of life through enrichment can lead to game-changing benefits to your shelter’s everyday operations. \nAttendees will get to view dynamic video examples and impactful data and experiences from some of the nearly 300 shelters that have embraced the power of letting shelter dogs play! \nThis webinar is one of three that will be delivered over the coming months. \nTo learn more about DPFL go to https://dogsplayingforlife.com \nPresenter: Aimee Sadler \nAimee is the Founder and CEO of Dogs Playing for Life (DPFL). With 35 years of experience working with multiple species in varying venues\, Aimee has become an internationally recognized trainer and speaker specializing in shelter programs that enhance quality of life and reduce canine euthanasia in animal shelters. The cornerstone of DPFL’s programming is our Every Dog\, Every Day!\, an out-of-kennel enrichment model that is in increasing demand and has been introduced to over 300 shelters across the U.S. and Canada. DPFL’s measured programming is contributing to safer shelter environments by reducing dog-human bites while increasing canine lifesaving at an average rate of 4% at participating shelters. Starting in 2017\, dogs most at risk of behavioral euthanasia can get a second chance at DPFL’s Canine Center Florida\, an advanced training and behavior care center with an overall save rate of 86 percent. \nAimee has regularly presented at animal welfare and professional dog training conferences such as HSUS’ Animal Expo\, Best Friend’s Annual Conferences\, Masters in Behavior Conference\, and the International Association of Canine Professionals (IACP) Conferences. DPFL was the inaugural recipient of Petco Foundation’s Love in Action Award. In 2016\, DPFL was featured in Episode 4 of the PBS television series\, “Shelter Me.” \nAimee is a proud recipient of the Henry Bergh Leadership Award and the Maddie’s Hero Award and has been inducted into the Members Hall of Fame for the IACP.
