SUMMARY:Webinar - 5/30/24 - This Means War: How to Deal with Fence Fighting - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Fence fighting\, barrier aggression\, barrier frustration… whatever you call it\, you probably want it to stop. For one thing\, you didn’t actually mean to hire D.O.G. Security Co.\, Ltd. For another\, your dog isn’t always the best judge of what needs barking at. Fence fighting also doesn’t make you popular among your neighbors. Worst of all\, if you happen to have more than one dog\, fence fighting can lead to redirected aggression. \nSo you want it to stop. But you’re not sure what to do. \nGood news: This webinar will give you strategies for helping your dog learn to live and let live… at the fence line\, anyway. 😉 \nYou’ll gain a better understanding of: \n\nWhy dogs react this way when barriers or restraint are involved\nHow stress and arousal play into fence fighting\nWhen and how to focus on management for fence fighting\nWhen and how to do training for fence fighting\nHow to identify related reactions in other contexts\n\nThis webinar is suitable for anyone with a dog who overreacts when barriers or restraint are involved\, as well as for professionals helping humans who live with dogs. \nPresenter: Irith Bloom \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/self-study/webinars

SUMMARY:Online Meeting - 6/3/24 - Weekly Community Conversations #ThanksToMaddie: Parvovirus Treatment Algorithm - Maddie's Fund
DESCRIPTION:Call Topic: Parvovirus Treatment Algorithm \nEven though safe and effective vaccines have been available for decades\, canine parvovirus remains a constant and frustrating threat to the health and welfare of the animals in our shelters and communities. Historically\, treatment has been too time and resource intensive for many sheltering organizations to consider\, however\, new tools and treatment options are helping organizations reduce the impact of this disease. This community conversations meeting will review a new decision-making tool to help organizations decide if\, when\, and how they might approach canine parvovirus cases and how to incorporate Canine Parvovirus Monoclonal Antibody (CPMA)\, the first and only treatment directed at the virus itself\, into their protocols. We will hear from two organizations that have successfully incorporated CPMA into their work to help save costs and improve life-saving. \nGuest Speakers: \n\nDr. Brian DiGangi\, Clinical Associate Professor of Shelter Medicine\, University of Florida\nDr. Alyssa Comroe\, Director of Veterinary Medicine\, Peggy Adams Rescue League\nSherri Stankewitz\, Owner/Founder & Sarah-Jane Montano\, RVT Manager\, The Fix Project\n\nMaddie’s Fund hosts a weekly 50-minute Zoom call for animal well-being professionals. SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/6/24 - California Rabies Awareness Challenge - CalAnimals
DESCRIPTION:Rabies control activities are an important function of California shelters and animal control agencies. Why are rabies vaccines important? What does rabies look like in domestic animals and how risky is this to humans? Rabies vaccine is the ONLY vaccine among the various biologics administered to companion animals in California that is regulated under State law\, and it is the responsibility of every licensed veterinarian to practice within the context of law when managing patients with respect to rabies and rabies vaccination. This scenario-based presentation has been developed to challenge participants on California regulatory/statutory issues pertaining to rabies. \nThe audience will be tasked to provide the correct (legal) responses to a variety of situations encountered in practice relating to rabies: eg\, what does “currently vaccinated” (in law) actually mean? What are the consequences for the patient\, and the owner\, following rabies exposure if the patient is “currently vaccinated” vs NOT “currently vaccinated?” Who has rabies vaccination exemption authority? How do we vaccinate hybrid species? What is Prospective Serological Monitoring? When is it recommended that we vaccinate our staff? \nSpeaker: Richard Ford\, DVM\, MS\, DACVIM\, DACVPM \nModerated by: Amy Auch\, DVM\, CCFP \nA huge thanks to Boehringer-Ingelheim for sponsoring this webinar! \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_9aHomdAzStGuLy-sD9KM9w#/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/6/24 - When Feelings Get in the Way - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Presenter: Amy Cook\, PhD \nYou’ve probably heard me say “when you teach your dog what to do\, you teach her how to feel\,” but have you thought about all the ways that may be impacting your training? Emotions and behaviors go hand in hand\, and you do not get the luxury of prioritizing one over the other. It’s in your best interest to align your emotional goals with your behavioral ones! \nExperiences like frustration\, confusion\, agitation\, desperation\, insecurity\, uncertainty\, suspicion and more (and the underlying emotions informing those) all get in the way of your dog’s learning and performance\, and also affect the bigger picture of what it’s like to work with you and learn things in general! One thing we really want in our dogs is a love of working with us\, full attention\, and for them to know they’re safe so they can give their all! \nIn this presentation I’ll go over the ways we can contribute to unwanted states in our dogs\, what that might look like\, and how you can minimize negative states and emphasize positive\, supportive ones! Let’s keep our dogs in the happy bucket! \n** This Webinar was previously included in the Dogs with Big Feelings One Day Conference (July 2022). SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/15/24 - Talks with Dogs: How Our Body Language Affects Our Communication with Dogs with Suzanne Clothier - PPG (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:The more details we have the easier it is to list and market the event*: Books and videos help us understand canine body language what this or that means\, but where is the focus on handler body language? Handler behavior is as complex and as nuanced as canine body language. When the handler is sending mixed\, inconsistent or contrary messages\, the dog can end up confused or frustrated. Greater awareness of how these elements can and do affect the dog can improve training and relationships\, and help avoid accidentally contributing to a dog’s anxiety\, fear\, reactivity or just flat out exasperation with humans. Dogs would really appreciate it if humans could learn to mean what they say\, and know what they are really saying\, and communicate clearly with intent and awareness. Suzanne provides video\, examples\, details and practical tips for helping handlers make adjustments. Whether you’re a pro who needs new ways to help clients be their best\, or a dog loving human who wants to communicate more clearly while removing common roadblocks to understanding\, this webinar is for you! \nLearning Objectives \nAttendees will learn to observe these elements of handler body language\, and be able to recognize them in themselves and others\, plus practical tips for helping handlers make adjustments for clearer\, consistent communication:\n• Meta-messaging\n• Balance\n• Postures & gestures\n• Orientation\n• Breathing & blink rate\n• Expression & voice \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.petprofessionalguild.com/webinars-events/webinars/talks-with-dogs-how-our-body-language-affects-our-communication-with-dogs-with-suzanne-clothier/

SUMMARY:Online Meeting - 6/17/24 - Weekly Community Conversations: Healing Justice for Trauma Experienced in the Workplace - Maddie's Fund
DESCRIPTION:Maddie’s Fund hosts a weekly 50-minute Zoom call for animal well-being professionals. These calls are a collaborative space to share exciting new programs and research\, discuss uncomfortable topics\, connect with peers in the industry\, and more\, all while sharing a common goal of preserving the human-animal bond. \nJune 17 Topic: Healing Justice for Trauma Experienced in the Workplace \nIf you have ever struggled with work-life balance and the impact of work stressors or you are in a position to create organizational changes\, this is the session for you! Hear from two BIPOC women who have worked in high volume shelters/clinics about the impact of burnout and how they have healed. The workshop will focus on the importance of centering healing justice\, a collective healing framework\, that will ultimately benefit individuals\, teams and organizations as a whole. We will define the types of burnout one might experience and provide examples\, specifically those that we experienced and overcame throughout our careers in animal welfare. SUMMARY:Online Event - 6/18/24 - All Call: Building a Successful Dog Day Trip Program - California for All Animals
DESCRIPTION:The All Call is a twice-monthly\, California community call for animal well-being professionals that occurs on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday. The one-hour call is a dedicated space to share and learn from each other. Popular topics include initiatives that create a more inclusive culture for both staff and community\, programs that keep pets with their people\, industry trends\, research studies\, as well as the hard stuff\, like what’s not working or what is particularly difficult during times of scarcity. The call is a mix of presentations\, storytelling\, open discussion\, and Q&A time. \nJoin us on June 18 as Sarah Aguilar shares the success of Santa Barbara County Animal Services’ Dog Day Trip program\, which has significantly boosted dog adoption rates and volunteer engagement. Sarah will share practical steps for replicating the initiative\, emphasizing community collaboration\, effective marketing\, and streamlined coordination\, and talk about what they learned along the way to over 300 day trips a month. \nAbout the presenter \nFollowing a life altering accident in 2011\, Sarah Aguilar has dedicated her life to improving the lives of pets in every community she has been in.  As a team member for nonprofits and municipal agencies\, Sarah has done it all from building a multi-state foster network for a small breed specific rescue to leading agencies with over 15\,000 annual intakes.  Sarah has held leadership roles at some familiar agencies such as Austin Pets Alive\, Greater Good Charities and Pima Animal Care\, and is currently the Director at Santa Barbara County Animal Services. \nThe All Call is hosted by California for All co-leaders Allison Cardona and Nadia Oseguera and is enriched by rotating facilitators. You only need to register one time. Calls are sometimes recorded; recap emails with supplemental resources are sent post-call. \nRegister here: https://tinyurl.com/all-call
