SUMMARY:Webinar - 11/4/25 - Equine Cruelty Investigations: There’s a Form for That! - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:Drs. Abby Sage and Jennifer LaPlume will use forms they have developed to walk you through the pre-planning steps for an equine cruelty investigation\, including on-site assessments and triage and the formation of an action plan backed up with owner resources. They will then use case examples to illustrate how to utilize these forms. \nAbby Sage and Jennifer LaPlume\, both equine veterinarians\, cofounded the Virginia Veterinary Equine Welfare Resource\, the first of its kind group that developed training for equine veterinarians in Virginia in forensics\, who then assist on-site with ACO’s in Virginia. They then developed these forms to help all parties\, including ACO’s\, veterinarians\, owners\, and rescues. Both have extensive experience assisting law enforcement in Virginia on equine cruelty cases. \nSpecifics discussed will be: \n\nAssessing the facility\, environment\, barns\, enclosures\, cleanliness\, nutrition provided\, pasture\, hay\, feed\, forage\, medications\nTriage for ACO’s and veterinarians\nFormation of an Action Plan Agreement that will guide easy communication and step-wise instructions for the horse owner.\nFinally\, cases will be used to help you decide\, “Why is that horse skinny?” Was it just purchased\, not getting enough proper nutrition\, sick\, low in hierarchy\, or willful neglect?\n\nThis webinar has been certified by the National Animal Care & Control Association and is approved for 1 Continuing Education Unit. Please refer to your NACA membership portal for current CEU submission process. Current NACA Members who attend the live presentation or watch the recording will be able to download a jointly issued attendance certificate that includes the National Animal Care & Control Association logo. SUMMARY:Online Event - 11/4/25 - All Call: Connecting Shelter Medicine and Mobile Outreach - California for All Animals
DESCRIPTION:After nearly four years and 71 calls\, we hope you’ll be a part of our final All Call conversation on the intersection of shelter medicine and community outreach. \nOn Tuesday\, November 4\, at 12 p.m. PT\, Shelter Outreach Veterinary Assistant Ehani Hunter will share her journey from San Diego Humane Society’s shelter medicine team to their traveling HQHVSN clinic. Whether you’re curious about community-based veterinary work or exploring different pathways in shelter medicine\, this conversation will offer inspiration for how vet professionals can adapt and grow within the field. \nInvite a colleague and gather in gratitude for this community we’ve made together! \nThe All Call is a California community call for animal well-being professionals. The one-hour call is a dedicated space to share and learn from each other. Popular topics include initiatives that create a more inclusive culture for both staff and community\, programs that keep pets with their people\, industry trends\, research studies\, as well as the hard stuff\, like what’s not working or what is particularly difficult during times of scarcity. The call is a mix of presentations\, storytelling\, open discussion\, and Q&A time. \nThe All Call is hosted by the California for All Animals team\, Nadia Oseguera-Ramón\, Ivy Ruiz\, and Allison Cardona.  You only need to register one time. Calls are sometimes recorded; recap emails with supplemental resources are sent post-call. Find past call resources and recordings\, including the recent Multicultural Engagement Community of Practice series\, at the Cal for All Animals website. \nRegister here: https://tinyurl.com/all-call

SUMMARY:Online Event - 11/6/25 - Maddie's Monthly Foster Connection: Detective\, Educator\, Mediator: A Holistic Approach to Foster Behavior Support - Maddie's Fund
DESCRIPTION:Foster insights are invaluable to shelters & rescues\, and no concern should ever be dismissed or taken more lightly than the foster presents it. At the same time\, that initial presentation of a concern tends to only offer one perspective: the human’s. Zan’s presentation will walk through example cases of their tried and true process of taking an analytical approach that simultaneously gets to the root causes of an animal’s concerning or unwanted behaviors and promotes a more nuanced understanding of those animals’ needs among fosters\, all without sacrificing compassion for either. \nGuest Speaker: Zan Lowell \nAbout Maddie’s Monthly Foster Connection:\nJoin us on the first Thursday of every month to discuss successful foster innovations and programs\, collaborate with others in the field\, answer questions and talk through complex foster-related issues. \nWho should join: Foster managers\, coordinators\, volunteers and any staff who are interested in learning about what’s working in foster programs. \nYou only need to register once for all meetings: https://maddies.fund/MonthlyFosterRegistration \nCan’t attend live?  Register anyway and you will get a link to the recording within a day or two after each meeting. \nAll recordings and resources shared during the webcast will also be available in the Maddie’s Monthly Foster Connection group on Maddie’s Pet Forum https://maddies.fund/monthlyfosterconnectionMPF \nMaddie’s Fund does not share registration information. \nThe opinions expressed by webinar presenters are their own and do not necessarily represent those of Maddie’s Fund. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://maddies.fund/MonthlyFosterRegistration

SUMMARY:Webinar - 11/10/25 - Civil Liability in Animal Investigations: Avoid Becoming Homeless while Protecting Animals - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:Officers involved in animal law enforcement face many of the same liability risks as traditional law enforcement—plus some that are unique to working with animals. There’s nothing more emotionally charged than removing someone’s child or pet\, and even when officers—whether police\, deputies\, animal control\, or humane officers—do everything by the book\, they may still face allegations or lawsuits. \nLaws around child welfare investigations are well established. But in many cases\, the legal framework around animal seizures is far less clear. That uncertainty makes it harder to do the right thing\, the right way\, at the right time—without violating the owner’s rights. Sometimes\, doing what feels right can still land you in trouble. \nThis webinar will explore where civil liability risks tend to arise in animal investigations\, how to protect yourself from claims of civil rights violations\, and what real-world cases have taught us—both about what went wrong\, and what could have been prevented. \nWEBSITE LINK: https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/civil-liability-in-animal-investigations-avoid-becoming-homeless-while-protecting-animals/

SUMMARY:Online Event - 11/19/25 - Shelter Med LIVE - Pills\, Skills\, and New Bills: Keeping the California Shelter Clinic Compliant - UC Davis KSMP
DESCRIPTION:November Topic: Pills\, Skills\, and New Bills: Keeping the California Shelter Clinic Compliant \nHosted by Dr. Jenn Bennett with guests Dr. Jena Valdez (Chief Medical Officer\, San Francisco SPCA)\, Dr. Ginger White\, (Veterinarian\, ASAP Cats)\, and Dr. Carissa Jones (Chief Veterinarian\, OC Animal Care) \nOver the past few years\, new California laws have expanded what shelter staff\, technicians\, and veterinarians can do for animals. Meanwhile\, shelter medicine remains a hot topic at the Veterinary Medical Board and the California Veterinary Medical Association as they consider compliance and concerns around compounding pharmaceuticals\, owner exemptions for medical care\, and veterinarian of record relationships. \nOn this episode of Shelter Med LIVE\, Drs. Valdez\, Jones and White will share how they work through these issues in-shelter and with partner organizations. Together\, we’ll unpack recent and upcoming changes and what they actually mean for your daily practice. \nJoin the discussion on the questions everyone’s asking: \n\nCan I still compound? What are the rules for drugs used in High-Quality High-Volume Spay/Neuter surgery and dispensing for common shelter treatments?\nWhat can I delegate to veterinary staff or technicians to expand the medical care for shelter animals when I’m not onsite? What about serving owned animals?\nWhat’s actually required for Vet of Record relationships\, and what should I be aware of when working with shelters?\n\nSend your biggest questions to sheltermedicine@ucdavis.edu in advance. After this hour\, you’ll feel more confident about the do’s\, don’ts\, and how to leverage laws at your shelter. \nAbout Shelter Med LIVE \nShelter medicine bridges gaps in veterinary care access\, ensuring animals are sterilized\, vaccinated\, and have the medical treatment they need before going home to the people and communities who care for them. \nAsk questions (or send them in ahead of time). This isn’t a lecture—it’s a conversation for everyone who wants to nerd out on shelter medicine. Kick back and recharge with your colleagues in the middle of a long week. \nThis event has been approved for 1 hour of continuing education credit by CAWA and NACA. \nCan’t make it live? Register to receive the recording and resources after the event\, accessible through the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program Shelter Learniverse\, #ThanksToMaddie! \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.shelterlearniverse.com/events
