SUMMARY:Webinar - 5/12/20 - Why Access to Pet Resources is a Social Justice Issue - UW Shelter Medicine
DESCRIPTION:Institutional bias and systemic inequity can have a negative impact on pets and there is a great need to understand and deepen the connection between animal welfare and social\, racial\, and economic justice. Join Amanda Arrington\, HSUS Pets for Life program\, in a webinar hosted by UW Shelter Medicine Program. No registration required! \n  \nHello National Shelter Medicine Rounds attendees\, \nFor rounds this tomorrow  UW Shelter Medicine Program is hosting Amanda Arrington from HSUS Pets for Life program on Tuesday May 12th form 3-4pm CST to share and lead discussion on ‘Why Access to Pet Resources is a Social Justice Issue’. Pet ownership crosses all boundaries of socio-economics\, race\, ethnicity\, and geography. But access to information and services does not. Institutional bias and systemic inequity can have a negative impact on pets and there is a great need to understand and deepen the connection between animal welfare and social\, racial\, and economic justice. \n\nWe will be recording this session and sharing the invitation more widely than just the National Rounds group. \n\nJoin at the following link: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/520278731 \nMeeting ID: 520 278 731 \n\nOne tap mobile \n+19292056099\,\,520278731# US (New York) \n+16699006833\,\,520278731# US (San Jose) \n\nNational Shelter Medicine Rounds is held on the same Zoom link for every session: \nhttps://zoom.us/j/520278731 \nMeeting ID: 520 278 731 \n\nOne tap mobile \n+19292056099\,\,520278731# US (New York) \n+16699006833\,\,520278731# US (San Jose) \n\nCOVID-19 Rounds info: \nWe will be more regularly offering National Shelter Medicine Rounds short term to discuss COVID-19 impacts on shelter medicine on Tuesdays from 3-4pm CT (1pmPT/2pmMT/4pmET)  and Thursdays from 2-3pm CT (12pmPT/1pmMT/3pmET). You are welcome to email questions or topics you hope to be discussed during rounds in advance to nationalsheltermedicinerounds@vetmed.wisc.edu and you are always encouraged to come prepared to unmute to ask questions and participate in discussion at any point. I will be sending email reminders of upcoming rounds in advance. Each rounds session I will be saving any documents and links that are shared in the chat in a folder called ‘COVID-19 shared documents’ that can be accessed at the Box link found at the end of each email in all rounds emails.
