She holds a B.S. in Public Affairs from Empire State College. Allison is dedicated to keeping pets and people forever together\, removing barriers so pet owners have access to care and services. Allison serves as the department’s liaison to the County of Los Angeles Homeless Initiative\, helping to integrate pet-friendly services into service planning and delivery. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nEd Jamison\nDirector of Dallas Animal Services\, City of Dallas\nDallas has the third largest intake in the United States\, with over 39\,000 dogs and cats coming into their care in 2019. Ed Jamison has been tasked with increasing public safety by getting loose animals off the streets\, while at the same time increasing positive outcomes. To accomplish that\, Jamison is leading a staff of around 220 employees\, maximizing relationships with the rescue community\, rebuilding the volunteer base and instituting new\, progressive programming. Prior to coming to Dallas\, Jamison was the Chief Animal Control Officer for the City of Cleveland\, Ohio\, but he entered the animal care and control world in the mid-2000s while he was the animal warden for the City of Garfield Heights\, a suburb of Cleveland. In his time serving Cleveland\, Ed made a push to redefine the way animal control functions and re-brand the public’s perception of the industry\, along with the perception of pit-bull-type dogs. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nJorge Ortega\nDirector\, Guilford County Animal Services\, North Carolina\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGabrielle Chapman\nSenior Social Justice Analyst\, The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS)\nGabrielle Chapman is the former Executive Director of Call to Action for Racial Equality\, West Virginia’s first professional statewide racial equity coalition. As HSUS’ Pets for Life Senior Analyst Social Justice\, Gabrielle will lend her skill set to facilitate complex conversations ranging from criminal justice reform to racial and economic justice in the animal welfare world. She is a 2018–2019 Soros Justice Fellow with the Open Society Foundation and serves as a Board of Director for West Virginia’s Center on Budget and Policy and West Virginia Women’s Health Center. Chapman holds a BS in Applied Biology from Russell Sage College. During her college years\, she interned at the U.S. Department of Defense\, was an assistant with Sage College’s Collegiate Science and Technology Entry Program\, and volunteered with the American Friends Service Committee. \n  \n\n\n\n\n\nJim Tedford\, CAWA\nPresident & CEO\, The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement\nJim Tedford accepted his dream job when he joined The Association as President & CEO in June of 2015.  But Jim is no stranger to the organization.  He has been a member for nearly 30 years and served as our Board Chairman some twenty years ago.  Jim has been actively engaged in the animal welfare movement for more than 34 years having served as CEO for animal sheltering organizations in New York\, Louisiana and Tennessee.  He served as a regional director for The Humane Society of the United States and then spent six years providing direct response marketing services to animal welfare organizations. She is also the author of a quick reference anesthesia publication entitled Veterinary Anesthesia Update for small animal practitioners.Lydia Love graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002. She has worked in a variety of clinical settings\, including non-profit spay-neuter practice; small animal relief & emergency work; private specialty referral practice; and academic practice\, most recently\, at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She earned her Ph.D. in Psychology at the University of Florida under the advisorship of Dr. Clive Wynne in the UF Canine Cognition and Behavior Lab (now part of the Canine Science Collaboratory) and her Masters in Behavior Analysis in the Organization for Reinforcement Contingencies under the advisorship of Dr. Jesus Rosales-Ruiz. \nShe has published a variety of scientific articles of her research on learning theory and the dog-human relationship. Brought up in India\, she completed her B.A. in Sociology and travelled to remote villages to study the caste system. She has an M.B.A. from the Edinburgh Business School in Scotland and a background in advertising and branding. over 10 years of experience working in the human-animal welfare world. \n\n\n  \n\n\n \nAbout Janet Hoy-Gerlach\, PhD\, LISW-S\nAssociate Professor\, University of Toledo School of Social Justice\nDr. Janet Hoy-Gerlach has extensive experience as a social work practitioner in the public mental health service system and is an avid advocate for the inclusion of human-animal interaction considerations within social work practice. Her current research is focused on: benefits of the human-animal bond; facilitators of mental health recovery among individuals living with mental illness; and the use of qualitative research to inform intervention research. She is on the board of the Toledo Area Humane Society (TAHS)\, where she developed and supervises MSW internship placements that facilitate benefits of human-animal interaction. She helped develop the TAHS Hope and Recovery Pet Program (HARP)\, which places shelter animals as Emotional Support Animals (ESAs); this is one of the only such programs in the United States. Dr. Hoy provides expert witness testimony for the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Rights Department on benefits of human-animal interaction. \n\n\n  \n\n\n \nAbout Derrick Prioleau\, DVM\nVeterinarian at SPCA of Texas\nDr. Derrick Prioleau was born and raised in Irmo\, South Carolina. He is a proud alumnus of Morehouse College in Atlanta\, Georgia. In 2015 he completed his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Prioleau moved to Dallas\, TX to start his veterinary career as an associate at The Animal Care Center in Duncanville\, TX. For the last four years he has dedicated full time service and extracurricular service as one of the many veterinarians at The SPCA of Texas. Dr. Prioleau enjoys the thrill of doing whatever he can to help and be a great vet. \n\n\n  \n\n\n \nAbout Aimee St.Arnaud\nDirector of National Veterinary Programs\, Best Friends Animal Society\nAimee previously served as Director of Programs at the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance\, where she handled curriculum design and program oversight that trained 1\,000 veterinary medical professionals a year and provided grant funds for organizations starting spay/neuter clinics. \nGrant-making is a passion of Aimee’s and she worked as a Program Manager at PetSmart Charities\, giving out $15 million a year to organizations that help dogs and cats. She also was a co-founder of Ohio Pet Fund\, which provides grant funds through specialty license-plate funding. \nAimee has experienced the opening of a spay/neuter clinic from both sides\, having founded Humane Ohio\, a low-cost spay/neuter clinic performing 19\,000 surgeries annually.
