SUMMARY:Webinar - 8/7/25 - Helping Animals Faster: Using Innovation to Reduce Length of Stay and Save More Lives - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:In 2018\, Pasco County Animal Services was saving over 85% of animals coming to the shelter but could not break through to saving more than 90%. This innovative leadership team took on the challenge and completely changed their live outcome model to include new\, progressive ways for animals to enter and leave alive. As a result\, the length of stay for animals in the shelter went from 28.5 days all the way to 3.1 days and the shelter has been above a 90% save rate since 2019. \nIn this session\, Assistant Director Spencer Conover will provide real-life challenges the organization was facing as well as tangible tools\, tactics\, and resources shelters can use to help lower length of stay\, better optimize budgets\, and increase the save rate in their organization without additional funding or staff. This interactive and engaging presentation will focus on streamlining intake procedures\, recruiting and retaining rescue partnerships\, fast-tracking animals through your shelter\, prioritizing budget areas that will have the largest impact on your saving rate\, and bringing the team together to focus on a common goal. \nWEBSITE LINK: https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/helping-animal-faster-using-innovation-to-reduce-length-of-stay-and-save-more-lives/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 7/30/25 - Unaltered Trends: A National Look at Sterilization Rates and Shelter Impact - Shelter Animals Count
DESCRIPTION:The rate of animals that are entering animal sheltering organizations spayed or neutered at intake are falling—and the impact of that is compounding. Join Shelter Animals Count as we unveil findings from our new Altered Status Report\, a five-year national analysis of spay/neuter trends in shelter populations based on exclusive animal-level data from over 260 organizations. \nThis session will unpack key data points by species\, intake type\, and region—highlighting the sharpest declines in altered status\, how those shifts are influencing length of stay\, and what it means for shelter capacity and community-level care. We’ll also explore the urgent need for targeted interventions to prevent further erosion in preventive veterinary access. \nSpecial guest Dr. Julie Levy will present insights from her latest study\, The Post-Pandemic Pet Sterilization Gap\, providing critical context on how the pandemic exacerbated surgical shortfalls—and what we can do now to catch up. \nWhether you’re working in sheltering\, rescue\, policy\, or industry\, this webinar will equip you with the data and talking points needed to understand—and respond to—one of the most pressing issues in animal welfare today. \nPanelists: \nStephanie Filer\, Executive Director\, Shelter Animals Count\nTori Fugate\, Director of Communications\, Shelter Animals Count\nDr. Julie Levy\, DVM\, University of Florida\, Shelter Medicine Program \nWEBSITE LINK: https://www.shelteranimalscount.org/event/webinar-unaltered-trends-a-national-look-at-sterilization-rates-and-shelter-impact/ \n

SUMMARY:Online Course – 7/30/25 – Return to Home Certification Workshop – Community Cats Podcast (small fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Leave all your assumptions about ‘dumped\, abandoned\, or unwanted’ stray cats at the door! Imagine if every stray cat entering our shelters was treated as a beloved pet with a family searching for them. How can we streamline the process of reuniting lost pets with their owners—without overburdening our dedicated staff and volunteers or filling up shelter space with lengthy stray holds? \nIn this session\, we’ll explore straightforward\, effective strategies and processes you can implement to support the owners of lost cats\, become a valuable resource for those who find stray cats\, and boost the rates at which cats in our shelters are joyfully reunited with their families. \nTake advantage of the interactive format and earn your certificate of completion after passing a short quiz. Plus gain access to an exclusive Facebook group to network with other cat-focused volunteers and professionals. \nThis workshop is presented by Corinne Bourgoin\, Shelter Operations Supervisor at the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA)\, and lasts 1.5 hours\, including an optional 15-minute Q&A session. Registration is just $10.00. \nThis course/webinar/series/conference has been approved for Continuing Educational Units by the National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA). SUMMARY:Webinar - 7/30/25 - What Every Animal Shelter is Getting Wrong and How To Fix It - Outcomes Consulting
DESCRIPTION:Join us on July 30 at 2:00 PM EST / 11:00 AM PST for a live webinar\, facilitated by Kristen Hassen of Outcomes Consulting Group\, and featuring industry experts Jackson Galaxy\, Dr. Sara Pizano\, and Cameron Moore. \nIn this webinar\, you’ll connect with expert animal shelter consultants who have visited hundreds of animal shelters. What they share may surprise you! Despite geographic and demographic diversity\, differences in the size and types of animal shelters\, and unique animal shelter cultures\, many problems animal shelters experience are nearly identical. We’ll break down the key solvable challenges and offer practical fixes that have worked time and time again to reduce length of stay\, improve staff and volunteer morale\, make shelters safer\, and ensure every animal receives the care and attention they deserve. Dr. Sara Pizano\, Jackson Galaxy\, and Cameron Moore will come together for the first time to share their combined decades of experience helping shelters recover from crises\, improve operations\, and plan for the future. \nWEBSITE LINK: https://tinyurl.com/4xcx2fxt

SUMMARY:Webinar - 7/29/25 - Caring for Each Other: What to do if ICE comes to your vet clinic - MCVMA and AAVMP
DESCRIPTION:In the current tumultuous political climate\, knowing our rights and caring for our communities is more important than ever. The increased abductions and deportations happening by Immigration and Customs Enforcement have been tearing apart families and communities. These deportations are targeting BIPOC\, primarily affecting Latinx and Asian-American communities. Veterinary medicine is not immune to the impacts. Our colleagues\, employees\, clients\, and patients can all be affected. Aside from the devastating human impacts\, pets could be separated from their family members with no warning or ability to plan for their care. This could lead to increased strain on shelters and rescues\, increase barriers to accessing veterinary care\, and lead to the loss of some of our most vulnerable veterinary colleagues. Knowing our rights can help us protect each other. \nJoin us for a live presentation by the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project\, hosted by the Multicultural Veterinary Medical Association and the Association of Asian Veterinary Medical Professionals: \nRegister here: https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/6317513410672/WN_2QsiDAgfQXypMQhisY3mVg

SUMMARY:Webinar - 7/29/25 - State of the Art Return-to-Home Tools - CalAnimals
DESCRIPTION:Learn how to promote community-based lost pet reunification\, reduce the number of stray animals entering your shelter\, and identify owners of lost pets even without identification! \nDocuPet has designed and is now offering progressive tools to help pet owners find their lost pets prior to a finder having to bring them to the shelter or an ACO being called for a loose stray animal. Additionally\, DocuPet has designed a Pet Record Search Tool that participating animal control agencies and shelters can access to help identify a pet owner\, even if the pet does not have a tag number or microchip. \nBoth of these tools are available to all pet owners and agencies at no cost. \n● For those agencies who use DocuPet as their licensing provider\, this is an enhancement to your current services (at no charge) and will help to increase your license compliance rates.\n● For those agencies who do not provide licensing services and/or do not use DocuPet as their licensing provider\, these tools are available to you at no charge. \nThere is no catch! Come learn how to get these tools up and running at your organization immediately and be part of a state-wide initiative to decrease the number of lost/stray animals entering our shelters! \nPresenter: Jackie Rose\, JD\, MS\, CAWA–DocuPet Chief Strategy Officer \nWEBSITE LINK: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/eTRfLc3oQ_qpluvCiCOlHA#/registration

SUMMARY:Webinar - 7/22/25 - Culture = Success: The Secret to Building a Positive Workplace Culture in Animal Welfare - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:The animal welfare industry is understaffed and facing worker turnover\, like employers around the country. The effects are dire: animal shelter workers are burned out\, and animals’ lives are at risk. But in the face of these challenges\, Pasco County Animal Services (PCAS) in Florida has zero vacant positions and hasn’t had an opening in an entry-level position in over 14 months. PCAS Assistant Director Spencer Conover attributes this success to a positive workplace culture built through inspiration\, leadership\, recognition\, equal pay\, and training. \nIn this webinar\, Spencer will discuss how PCAS created and sustains its positive workplace culture and how you can easily adapt these methods to help better retain team members and build a positive workplace culture of your own. \nThis webinar has been certified by the National Animal Care & Control Association and is approved for 1 Continuing Education Unit. Please refer to your NACA membership portal for current CEU submission process. Current NACA Members who attend the live presentation or watch the recording will be able to download a jointly issued attendance certificate that includes the National Animal Care & Control Association logo. \nWEBSITE LINK: https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/culture-success-the-secret-to-building-a-positive-workplace-culture-in-animal-welfare/
