SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/4/20 - Caring From Across Town: Practical Telehealth for Shelters and Clinics - Maddie's Fund
DESCRIPTION:Has the Covid-19 crisis forced you to put more animals into foster care? Have you had to hold off on non-emergency surgeries and medical treatment? You’re not alone. \nAs the “community becomes the shelter\,” organizations across the country have found themselves serving their populations from afar through telehealth. This approach can be very effective and efficient\, but also raises some practical questions. Come learn more about the telehealth landscape and how best to implement this tool in your shelter or clinic. \nPanelists:\nDr. Mike Greenberg\, Director of Outreach Programs\, Maddie’s Fund\nBrenton Minish\, Customer Success Manager Digital Team\, Boehringer Ingelheim\nDr. Julie Ryan-Johnson\, Associate Director\, Boehringer Ingelheim\nAimee St.Arnaud\, Director of Veterinary Programs\, Best Friends Animal Society \nJoin us on Thursday\, June 4 at 12:00pm Pacific / 3:00pm Eastern \nThis webcast is one hour and will be recorded. \n\n\n \nAbout Dr. Michael (Mike) Greenberg\nDirector of Outreach Programs\, Maddie’s Fund\nPrior to joining the team at Maddie’s Fund®\, Dr. Mike served as program director for Target Zero\, helping communities across the US achieve 90% or greater live release rates from their animal shelter systems through implementation of best practice strategies. Following veterinary school\, Mike worked in rural private practice. It was there that he began volunteering with shelters and working with shelter staff and leaders to address community issues to increase lifesaving. \nHaving caught “the bug\,” Mike took the plunge into the sheltering world and in 2011 completed his training in shelter medicine with the Maddie’s® Shelter Medicine Program at Cornell’s College of Veterinary Medicine. Since that time\, he has worked clinically and as a consultant for multiple public and private animal shelters throughout the United States. He is based in Nashville\, TN where he helped to start Pet Community Center\, a shelter intake prevention organization. \n\n\n  \n\n\n \nAbout Brenton Minish\nCustomer Success Manager Digital Team\, Boehringer Ingelheim\nBrenton Minish is the Customer Success Manager for our Digital Team at Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health (BI). He has been in the veterinary industry his entire professional career\, starting off as an inside sales rep for Merial before taking a Territory Manager role in Charlotte\, NC with BI. While working his territory in Charlotte\, he went back to school and received an MBA from Wake Forest University in 2018. After graduating\, he accepted the offer for his current role at Boehringer Ingelheim\, which is responsible for successfully rolling out digital initiatives to clinics and shelters\, the first of which being PetPro Connect. \n\n\n  \n\n\n \nAbout Julie Ryan-Johnson\, DVM\nAssociate Director\, Boehringer Ingelheim\nDr. Julie Ann Ryan-Johnson is passionate about shelter medicine and has been a shelter veterinarian for over 25 years and was the director of a large municipal shelter. SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/4/20 - Welcome Back to Business As Unusual: Practicing Tomorrow’s Veterinary Medicine Today - Fear Free & Virox
DESCRIPTION:Dr. Marty Becker\, Founder of Fear Free\, and Teresa Mariscal\, Veterinary Technician \nIt’s been said that the only person who likes change is a four-month-old baby with a wet diaper. While true for many\, the most successful veterinary healthcare professionals look at change as a way to “repot their practice\,” so to speak: to cut away dead growth (can be lethargic\, uncommitted employees)\, replenish the soil (new programs and protocols)\, and facilitate new growth and the bearing of fruit (lower turnover\, new bonded clients\, more frequent visits\, higher profits). \nCOVID has forced change in veterinary practice more dramatically and faster than anything in our memories or experience. Telemedicine seemed so far off and now most of us are using it in some capacity. Some of us dreamed of just seeing pets without their people\, and those dreams have come true! All joking aside\, we can now see how pets respond when mom and dad aren’t in the building with them. We’re discovering new efficiencies we never thought possible. In this webinar you’ll learn how to be forward thinking\, creative\, adaptive\, compassionate\, efficient\, and healthy (physically and emotionally) while delivering the kind of veterinary care that will have pet parents coming in more often and referring others to taste for themselves. Welcome to “business as unusual” or “returning to business as abnormal” as we embrace the change thrust upon us and harness it for growth. \nJoin us for this free webinar on Thursday\, June 4\, at 2 p.m. Eastern (U.S.) Time. \nBrought to you by Virox Animal Health. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://event.webinarjam.com/register/93/yyl75t54

SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/3/20 - Decreasing Stress at the Veterinary Hospital Begins at Home - HSVMA
DESCRIPTION:In this era of low stress veterinary visits\, what about the patient that is stressed long before they arrive at the hospital? Please join HSVMA as we welcome veterinary behaviorist Dr. Meredith Stepita to discuss working with pet owners to implement a behavior modification plan at home\, before the visit\, to support the patients with stressors such as car rides\, carriers\, etc. \nDr. Stepita’s objectives for this webinar are to: \n\nIdentify sources of canine and feline stress that occur prior to the veterinary visit\n\n\nProvide a step by step guide clinicians can use to teach pet owners how to lay a foundation for behavior modification at home before the veterinary visit\n\n\nUnderstand the role select anti-anxiety medications and non-pharmaceutical treatments play in decreasing patient stress that occurs before the veterinary visit\n\nWe hope you will join us as we explore this important topic. \nREGISTER – https://sheltermedicine.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Eha0XXTMTl6ueT9uvJk71g \nThis webinar is RACE-approved for 1.5 hours of veterinary CE credit and is available at no cost as a benefit for HSVMA members. \nNot a member? We encourage you to join so you can take advantage of free access to our live and archived CE webinars and other member benefits. \nPRESENTER: MEREDITH STEPITA\, DVM\, DACVB \n \nDr. Stepita received her DVM from the University of Tennessee in 2006. After completing an internship and working in general practice in Arizona she entered into the Clinical Veterinary Behavior Residency Program at the University of California-Davis\, becoming a Board-Certified Veterinary Behaviorist in 2011. She spends most of her time in her San Francisco Bay Area-based practice\, Veterinary Behavior Specialists\, helping pet owners improve their pet’s behavior problems\, and finds working with dedicated pet owners to be highly rewarding.\n\n\nDr. Stepita’s research involves the frequency of parvovirus in puppies attending puppy socialization classes. Results of this study showed that vaccinated puppies attending these classes were no more likely to be diagnosed with parvovirus than those not attending these classes. She has authored chapters on canine aggression\, feline anxiety\, feline house soiling\, and canine and feline mourning in veterinary texts. Dr. Stepita is also a local and national speaker. Her areas of interest include canine and feline anxiety and aggression\, the human-animal bond\, and animal welfare.

SUMMARY:Webinar - 6/3/20 - Update on Behavioral Assessments in the Shelter - The AAWA
DESCRIPTION:Behavioral assessments performed in the shelter are used to evaluate an animals’ behavior in various circumstances for specific purposes. These purposes may be to evaluate the predictability of an animal’s reaction to a number of situations. Recent insight has indicated that the evaluations in the shelter do not reliably predict how the pet is going to behave in the home. Many of the assessments lead to false positive results\, meaning a pet can be labeled as being aggressive when it is not. We will review some of the assessments currently used and discuss a different approach to performing behavioral assessments of shelter pets. \nThis session is part of the Shelter Medicine series\, a collaboration between the Association of Shelter Veterinarians and The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement. \nThis webinar has been pre-approved for 1 Certified Animal Welfare Administrator continuing education credit. \nThis program (both live and recorded) has been submitted for: \n\n1 hour of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize RACE approval.\n1 CEU for behavior consultants by The International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC).\n1 CE  by the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for Texas Animal Control Officers\n\nBONUS! \n– Members of The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement who are vets or vet students may receive a free 1-year membership with the Association of Shelter Veterinarians (ASV).\n– Members of the Association of Shelter Veterinarians may receive a free 1-year membership with The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement. \n>> Membership instructions will be sent after you attend your first webinar in full. \n\n\nDr. Wailani Sung\, DACVB\nVeterinary Behaviorist\, Behavior Specialty Clinic\, San Francisco SPCA\nDr. Wailani Sung obtained her master’s degree and Doctorate in Psychology in animal behavior as well as her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from The University of Georgia. She is a co-author of the book\, “From Fearful to Fear Free” along with Dr. Marty Becker\, Dr. Lisa Radosta\, and Mikkel Becker. Dr. Sung is a contributor to the Fear Free Shelter program. SUMMARY:Webinar - 5/27/20 - Keeping Families Together: Pivoting Community Programming to Support People and Pets During COVID-19 Sponsored by PetHub
DESCRIPTION:Gateway Pet Guardians has spent years working with low income families in the Metro East St. Louis area\, providing supplies and services to families with pets. Community programming has been put in place to help families access these resources\, overcoming obstacles such as affordability and access. Now\, more than ever\, low income families in communities all over the United States can use the support of animal welfare organizations due to the rippling effects of COVID-19. As we wade through these uncharted waters\, we must consider how to modify existing programming and create new programming to help families care for their pets despite recent economic impacts. This webinar will focus on ways rescues\, shelters\, and animal welfare agencies can provide support to families experiencing hardship\, with the goal of keeping pets out of the shelter system and in their homes with families that love them. \nHosted by Jamie Case and Janet Alderson of Gateway Pet Guardians \nSponsored by PetHub \nWEBINAR LINK:  https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_VIzms0z_Q9KwfZMMNxn8gg

SUMMARY:Behavior and Training Online Conference - 5/23/20 to 5/25/20 - The Lemonade Conference - Behavior and Training - IAABC And FDSA
DESCRIPTION:As dog trainers\, it’s not about what we can’t do — it’s about what we can do! So when COVID-19 shut down IAABC and FDSA’s in-person training conferences\, we took those lemons\, squeezed them\, added some water\, sugar\, and a splash of attitude and we made … lemonade! \nWorking together\, IAABC and FDSA created The Lemonade Conference\, a highly affordable online educational extravaganza of unprecedented size and scope — 40+ presenters with two simultaneous classrooms running for three days\, 18 hours a day. And for those not available for the live event\, we will include a free “library” of all of the presentations\, included in your registration fee (conference must be purchased before it ends; videos are then available for at least a year in your library). Watch the recordings from the comfort of your living room in the months following the conference — always at your leisure. \nBut what’s a conference without a chance to shop the vendors? A number of fantastic sponsors have stepped up to the plate to join us! You’ll have an opportunity shop and watch a variety of dog-centric presentations about products and services that are highly applicable for hobbyists and pet professionals alike — make sure you take some time to see what they’re offering this year! \nWe welcome you to join us and our talented group of presenters\, to make new friends around the world\, and to shop with our dog-centric vendors. We have so much in common\, and so much to learn from each other. We believe we’ll make some very tasty lemonade indeed! \nBACKGROUND: \nIn March of 2020\, the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants (IAABC) and the Fenzi Dog Sports Academy (FDSA) faced a daunting challenge: How does one host an educational conference when COVID-19 is virtually guaranteed to risk the health and safety of participants? \nThe answer is – you don’t. You cancel because that is the right thing to do. \nSo you make the decision to cancel\, and then you feel terrible. You’ve let people down\, you’ve risked a ton of money\, and all that work has been lost. But then you remember – you’re a trainer! It’s not about what we can’t do – it’s about what we can do! So you get up\, brush yourself off\, look around\, and find a solution that fits the problem. You take those lemons\, squeeze them\, add some water\, sugar\, and a splash of attitude and you make … lemonade! \nAnd that is exactly what happened. Recognizing that our community needed something to look forward to\, especially at a time when many of us are struggling for work\, we looked for something we could do. \nAfter a night of non-stop brainstorming between IAABC and FDSA\, we knew the answer was there within our reach. We could create an online conference with top-notch presenters\, interactive opportunities\, and a worldwide schedule to reach the largest number of people. We could offer generous scholarships to support our community in a time of need. We could combine the very best that our communities had to offer in the fields of dog behavior\, training and dog sports – the best of the best! \nAnd we did exactly that! Working together\, IAABC and FDSA created The Lemonade Conference\, an online educational extravaganza of unprecedented size and scope – 40+ presenters with two simultaneous classrooms running for three days\, 18 hours a day. And for those not available for the live event\, we have included a free “library” of all of the presentations\, included in your registration fee. \nhttps://thelemonadeconference.com/ \n
