SUMMARY:Webinar - 10/17/22 - Harmonious Walks: Redefining Loose-Leash Walking - PPG (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Ask any trainer why clients reach out to them for help\, and somewhere in the top three reasons you’ll often find “walking on-leash.” Owners want to fix a common problem that occurs when they’re handling their dog on leash\, usually pulling\, or playing tug with the leash. \nIn this session\, we’ll cover how to achieve harmonious walks. Nancy will move away from focusing on the traditional heeling behavior\, and towards recognizing and meeting dogs’ needs through foundation skills and on-leash games that anyone can do. “Harmonious walks” means everyone wins: Happy dogs\, and happy clients. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearn how to help your clients attain that elusive “loose-leash walking” behavior in the most enjoyable way.\n\nCEUs: PPAB 1\, CCPDT (pending)\, IAABC (pending)\, KPA (pending) \nAbout the Presenter\nNancy Tucker is a certified trainer with the CCPDT and a fully certified behavior consultant with the IAABC. She teaches seminars\, webinars\, and workshops on dog training\, dog behavior\, and the business end of training throughout Canada\, the US\, and Europe. She has presented at conferences for the Pet Professional Guild\, the IAABC\, the Dog Event in France\, the WOOF! conference in the UK\, and The Lemonade Conference. \nShe teaches online courses focusing on various topics including how to resolve separation anxiety\, how to use desensitization and counterconditioning to address fearful behaviors\, and how to tackle other common behavior issues. \nNancy has written numerous articles on dog behavior and has a professional background in public relations and copywriting. She shares her home in Quebec\, Canada with her husband and their ridiculously cute border terrier\, Bennigan. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://petprofessionalguild.com/event-4952645

SUMMARY:Webinar - 10/18/22 - Shelter PALS CA Shelter Laws: Community Cats - CalAnimals
DESCRIPTION:One of the most important work of shelters these days is serving local communities by engaging in life-saving\, humane—and legal—community cat programs (CCP) for outdoor-living cats. If you want to know about the issues\, and how to do CCPs right\, join us for a walk through the challenges\, particulars\, and legalities of community cats in California\, prepared by the San Francisco SPCA’s Shelter PALS (Shelter Policy and Legal Services) program. \nWhen it comes to community cats in California\, the sheltering industry is much stronger together. Standardizing CCP operations across the state will help people\, animals\, and local governments\, so that we can lift up communities who do not yet have them\, avoid problems in communities who already have CCPs\, and best position the movement to defend CCPs against any challenges. \nIn this 90-minute webinar\, attendees will learn the factual and legal basics of community cats\, how to support those programs with local ordinances\, and also how to sign up your shelter for free legal support to set up or shore up the CCP in your own community. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_FybtwW4QRaimLr-QGdM5Pw

SUMMARY:Webinar - 10/19/22 - SKIP: Saving Kittens in Partnership - National Kitten Coalition
DESCRIPTION:Join us for this FREE guest National Kitten Rescue webinar hosted by NKC to learn more about an innovative program that will help save vulnerable kittens at risk of being euthanized. This webinar will inspire you to rescue and rehabilitate the most at-risk of kittens\, the ones that are dying every day upon arrival at shelters. \nThanks to a generous grant from The Humane Society of the United States\, the Newborn Kitten Rescue has teamed with The National Kitten Coalition to produce a Toolkit for you to start or adapt your rescue to focus on these ‘last chance’ kittens that need us the most. This webinar will walk you through the highlights of that toolkit\, which will be available on the NKC and HSUS websites. \nIf you can’t join us for the live presentation\, don’t worry! Sign-up anyway\, because a recording of this\, and other webinars\, will be available on NKC’s eLearning Center no later than 2 weeks after they air. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/2093087934680937740

SUMMARY:Webinar - 10/24/22 - “I’m out of Control!” Helping the Over-Aroused Animal - PPG (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Many of the behavior issues we see in pets – including biting – can relate to over-arousal. So how do we help the over-aroused animal? Whether you are faced with reactive\, aggressive\, or fearful behavior\, addressing over-arousal can be the key to improving behavior and keeping pets in their homes. In this presentation\, Irith will give you tips for identifying over-arousal and share practical tools to help you deal with over-arousal issues in pet animals. \nThis was previously aired at Geek Week 2021 \nLearning Objectives: \n\nBetter understand arousal and its effects.\nBe able to determine when “problem” behaviors relate to over-arousal.\nLearn training games that can help pets learn to manage their arousal levels.\n\nCEUs: PPAB 1\, CCPDT (pending)\, IAABC (pending)\, KPA (pending) \nAbout the Presenter\nIrith Bloom has loved animals for as long as she can remember. She grew up with dogs\, gerbils\, and a pet snake (who was housed far from the gerbils) and was fascinated by horses. After years of (unsuccessfully) begging her parents to let her ride\, she took matters into her own hands and won a horse in an essay contest. Irith’s parents were too busy to train the animals\, so Irith became good at teaching useful (from the human point of view) skills to non-human animals. \nA self-admitted geek\, Irith has spent a great deal of time studying the science of behavior. She is fortunate enough to be invited regularly to give presentations on a variety of animal- and learning-related topics. Her writing on these topics has also been published both online and in print. \nIrith is faculty at Victoria Stilwell Academy for Dog Training and Behavior and dogbiz’s Dog Walking Academy. She is also a CPDT-KSA\, a CBCC-KA\, a CDBC\, a CSAT\, a KPA CTP\, a VSPDT\, and a CBATI\, as well as being certified in TAGteach\, a positive-reinforcement method for teaching humans. \nIrith is a member of the board of directors of the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT)\, on the advisory board for Daily Paws\, chair emeritus of the Education Committee of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT)\, and a former member of the APDT Legislative Task Force. She also volunteers for National English Shepherd Rescue. \nIrith has a BA in biology from the University of Pennsylvania and lives in Los Angeles\, California. Her company\, The Sophisticated Dog\, LLC\, offers online training and behavior services to clients worldwide as well as limited in-person services for clients in her local area. Irith also offers consulting services for fellow pet professionals. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://petprofessionalguild.com/event-4987027

SUMMARY:Hybrid Conference - 10/27/22 to 10/30/22 - 2022 Annual Conference - AAFP (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:The 2022 AAFP Conference will be a hybrid event\, which means it will be both in-person and virtual. The in-person portion of the meeting will take place at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh\, Pennsylvania. \nThe AAFP is excited to announce this year’s annual conference theme\, Enriching Feline Care & the Veterinary Experience. When we think about being Cat Friendly\, we often think of handling and interactions with cats\, however much of Cat Friendly is about elevating the standard of medical and surgical care that cats receive. While the conference will cover aspects of the environment\, interactions\, techniques\, and educating caregivers\, it will also cover many medical topics. This enables even the most experienced participant to stay current and up-to-date on feline medicine topics. No matter what your role in the practice or your level of experience with cats\, this will be a conference that allows everyone to increase their feline knowledge in order to continue to elevate the standard of care for cats. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://catvets.com/education/conference/2022/registration

SUMMARY:Online Event – 10/27/22 – Maddie’s® Candid Conversation with Geraldine D’Silva - Maddie's Fund
DESCRIPTION:Growing up in India\, Geraldine developed a deep understanding of equality and the human / animal bond. From an early age\, she’d care for stray dogs in her neighborhood – feeding them and taking them to a local shelter. Later\, that compassion expanded using her degree in Sociology which took her to remote villages to study the caste system and women’s empowerment\, and then volunteering with those experiencing homelessness. An M.B.A. from the Edinburgh Business School gave her even greater skills\, but as a foreigner both in Scotland and then in the U.S.\, finding meaningful work was a serious challenge. Join us to hear about her journey across the globe and what inspired her to be courageous in the face of adversity. \nMaddie’s Fund Executive Leadership Team member Mary Ippoliti-Smith hosts the discussion and Q+A. Afterwards\, continue the conversation with Geraldine on Maddie’s Pet Forum: https://maddies.fund/candidconvoGeraldineDSilva \nThe program will be recorded and made available on Maddie’s University for continuing education credit for both CAWA and NACA. \n \nWith work experience in three continents and over 10 years of operational leadership\, Geraldine has a passion for building innovative community programs and strategic partnerships to bridge the gap between human and animal well-being\, to increase access to care. She led a small non-profit through a merger & acquisition with one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the US\, and over 8 years strategically helped integrate the services throughout the 140-year-old animal shelter\, enabling it to pivot to the new community-centered model that is now unfolding. Brought up in India\, she did her B.A. in Sociology which took her to remote villages to study the caste system and women’s empowerment. She has an M.B.A. from the Edinburgh Business School in Scotland and a background in research consultancy\, advertising and branding. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://maddies.fund/REGISTERCandidConvoGeraldineDSilva
