SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/18/23 - Breaking Down "Us vs. Them" Thinking to Build Stronger Connections - The AAWA
DESCRIPTION:Whether we realize it or not\, the polarization and uncertainty happening in society impacts every aspect of our lives\, including the workplace. When we feel that a core part of our values or our identity is threatened\, our instinct is often to contract\, to seek what feels comfortable\, predictable\, and safe. Yet it is precisely in these times when we need to expand\, to venture beyond the assumed safety of our comfort zones and echo chambers. We will explore 3 practices for expansion and how to broaden and diversify our social networks to make better decisions for our organizations. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://learning.theaawa.org/p/1-18-23

SUMMARY:Online Course - 1/18/23 - Surrender Prevention Certification Workshop - Community Cats Podcast (small fee applies)

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/19/23 - Bodies of Evidence: Issues Arising from Search and Seizure of Animal Bodies in Cruelty Investigations - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:A law enforcement officer seizes a dying horse without a warrant. An abused animal is brought to a veterinarian for euthanasia and cremation\, but instead is necropsied. A law enforcement officer shields onlooking children from a cat’s body by placing it in a nearby dumpster. A veterinarian does a warrantless blood draw to diagnose a malnourished dog\, and the blood results are used in a criminal prosecution. In animal cruelty cases\, the animal’s body—whether dead or alive—is a crime scene. Many law enforcement professionals have not been trained to properly preserve and search that crime scene\, and yet they are forced to do so\, without compromising the evidence\, the defendant’s constitutional rights\, or the animal’s health or life. These cases present novel search and seizure issues. Join the Animal Legal Defense Fund’s attorneys David Rosengard\, Emily Lewis\, and Kathleen Wood to discuss how these and other issues can be resolved for a successful prosecution\, and how they can be addressed or avoided in future cases. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/bodies-of-evidence-issues-arising-from-search-and-seizure-of-animal-bodies-in-cruelty-investigations/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/19/23 - Suzanne Clothier - Quick – Hit PAUSE! Using Controlled Set-ups for Reactive Dogs - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Handlers of reactive dogs struggle to find ways to help their dogs feel less worried\, overwhelmed or pushed past their thresholds. But progress can be slow\, particularly if the dog continues to be triggered despite the handler’s best efforts. \nAs a behavior consultant\, I work with many handlers who are discouraged or frustrated. In many cases\, there are holes in the training plan. Inevitably\, the training falls apart\, the dog is triggered\, the handler is embarrassed or upset. Why does this happen so often? \nThis webinar dives into what you need to know to help reactive dogs through carefully controlled set-ups. \nTraining in the wild?\nPause button or uncontrolled variables?\nUnderstanding your dog’s triggers (visual\, auditory\, kinesthetic\, olfactory\, social\, chase)\nThe holy trinity of dog training: Distance\, intensity & duration\nUsing Line of View and Field of View in the real world \nIf you’ve ever wished for a PAUSE button on life to help your dog\, this webinar is for you. The practical information provided will help anyone create successful training moments. Find out why so many clients and their dogs have benefited from this sensible approach to thin slicing for success. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/self-study/webinars

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/25/23 - DPFL’s Approach to On-Leash Reactivity - Dogs Playing for Life
DESCRIPTION:Reactivity on the part of dogs living in shelters is a rampant issue that can contribute to behavioral deterioration\, increased length of stay\, and even loss of life. From a misdiagnosis of “aggression” to dogs whose reactive behavior escalates to problematic and potentially unsafe levels\, learning how to help dogs suffering from reactivity issues is a crucial need shared by our entire industry. \nWhile this webinar can be attended as a standalone course\, we highly recommend attending our Fancy Footwork webinar first. We will build on our Fancy Footwork approach to handling and training to offer practical training\, handling\, and safety solutions to on-leash reactivity for dogs living in shelters. \nThis is a 1.5-hour presentation followed by a Q&A session of approximately 30 minutes (we’ll go longer if there are questions remaining). This webinar will NOT be recorded and is scheduled on EASTERN TIME. \nThis webinar holds 500 attendees\, so register in advance\, and show up on time the day of the webinar (we’ll open it up 15 minutes early) to be sure to get a spot! \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ap6COGGKRCqV7urAGbyFbg

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/26/23 - Yes\, You Can Fundraise! Fundraising for Animal Welfare Government Agencies - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:Municipal animal care and control organizations are often scrambling for resources\, and supplies.  Staff dreams of the possibility of creating a system to have the community support their shelter and community programs with funds and resources but have often been told “No” by individuals who think that municipal animal organizations cannot accept funds outside of their approved budget.  This course will cover the basics of how to get past the “No” and how to develop a comprehensive fundraising and outreach program that will engage the community and bring in much-needed support. Topics such as convincing your government officials\, setting up the appropriate infrastructure to succeed\, an overview of fundraising techniques that work\, and how to communicate with potential supporters will be discussed. \nPresenter \nJulie Bank is the principal of JBankConsulting where she works with non-profit and municipal clients on assessments\, planning\, programming\, operations\, and administration.  She is also faculty at the University of Florida Veterinary School working on the development and teaching of an online class on Development and Fundraising for master’s students.  She has worked for over 30 years in private non-profit and governmental animal welfare and control agencies leading organizations in New York\, Arizona\, Oklahoma\, and California.  Julie specializes in organizational change within animal welfare and programs that support the shelter in supporting the human-animal bond.  She has worked nationally and internationally teaching others about shelter operations and programs and has visited hundreds of shelters to assist with organizational needs. Julie has a BS Degree in Management and Finance and an MIS Degree in Contemporary Animal Welfare and Non-profit management.  She shares her home with her partner\, their 14-year-old son\, her two dogs Malee and Bobbie\, two cats\, Cleo and Curley\, and the queen of the house\, their bearded dragon\, Sprite. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/yes-you-can-fundraise-fundraising-for-animal-welfare-government-agencies/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/27/23 - Neonatal & Pediatric Care & Resuscitation - Think Anesthesia
DESCRIPTION:Register here for our guest\, Amy Newfield\, MS\, CVT\, VTS (ECC) presentation on Neonatal & Pediatric Care and Resuscitation. The neonatal and pediatric patient can prove challenging when performing certain nursing techniques. The sheer size and lack of developmental anatomy result in challenges that are unique to this age group of canines and felines. Being prepared ahead of time with the understanding of what challenges one may face before caring for them is important. This presentation is worth 1 hour RACE approved CE for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.thinkanesthesia.education/live-webinar/2022/12/neonatal-pediatric-care-resuscitation
