SUMMARY:Webinar - 12/9/21 - Don't bite the hand that feeds you: Human-Directed Resource Guarding - Dog iBox (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Resource guarding (a.k.a. “possessive aggression”) can be easy to spot when a dog shifts gears from their role as a cuddly family member to one that is growling\, posturing\, or snapping when their access to a valued resource is perceived to be threatened. But why does this happen? This presentation will dive deep into which aspects of this human-directed aggression pattern may be considered “normal” and which may have underlying influences of medical diagnoses or emotional disorders\, before taking an even closer look at management and behavior modification strategies that can be used for the prevention of this pattern as well as for intervention. Patterns of behavior that are specific to individual resources will be compared to dogs showing a more “generalized” pattern\, and case examples will be provided to discuss when or if medication may be helpful as part of a comprehensive intervention plan. \nWEBSITE LINK: https://www.dog-ibox.com/market/catalog/live-webinars/live-webinars-english-c-34/human-directed-resource-guarding.html

SUMMARY:Webinar - 12/9/21 - DPFL’s Approach to On-Leash Reactivity - Dogs Playing for Life
DESCRIPTION:Reactivity on the part of dogs living in shelters is a rampant issue that can contribute to behavioral deterioration\, increased length of stay\, and even loss of life. From a misdiagnosis of “aggression” to dogs whose reactive behavior escalates to problematic and potentially unsafe levels\, learning how to help dogs suffering from reactivity issues is a crucial need shared by our entire industry. \nWhile this webinar can be attended as a standalone course\, we will build on our Fancy Footwork approach to handling and training to offer practical training\, handling\, and safety solutions to on-leash reactivity for dogs living in shelters. \nThis is a 1.5-hour presentation followed by a Q&A session. This webinar will NOT be recorded and is scheduled on EASTERN TIME. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://us06web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_Hq5wRp8uTqyeN5djAXdCFw

SUMMARY:Webinar - 12/15/21 - Climbing Mt. Debt: Navigating Your Veterinary Student Loan Repayment Options - HSVMA
DESCRIPTION:HSVMA is partnering with VIN Foundation to bring you this special webinar! \nNon-profit veterinarians and support professionals — Do you know the best way to handle your student loans? \nConventional wisdom says you should pay your loans back as fast as possible. However\, federal income-driven repayment (IDR) options and Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) are often a much better strategy for many veterinarians and support professionals. \nChoosing the right student loan repayment strategy for your situation can save you a ton of time\, money\, and stress — a concept VIN Foundation calls Repay Wiser. \nJoin Dr. Tony Bartels (a leading authority on U.S. veterinary student debt) for this special Climbing Mt. Debt session to see if you are doing all you can as a non-profit employee veterinarian or support professional to save money and reduce your student debt stress.  Special guest Heather Schrader\, RVT\, MCJ will also join to share how she received forgiveness under the Temporary Expanded PSLF program! Heather is the Program Manager of Student Outreach for HSVMA. \nIn this webinar Tony demystifies the most difficult aspects of loan repayment: \n1) What’s the “best” way to repay your student loans?\n2) How can you use your debt to income ratio to create a plan?\n3) What is PSLF and how do I make sure I’m on track for forgiveness\n4) How do I make sense of all the PSLF changes: TEPSLF\, waivers\, loan servicers quitting?\n5) How do you know when to adjust your repayment strategy? \nThis webinar has a suggested Student Debt & Income Signalment short “homework” assignment to compete prior to the session. The secure form should take only about 10 minutes to complete and will help with customizing the session content: https://surveys.vin.com/s3/HSVMA-MtDebt-Dec2021. \nCompleting the pre-session homework also helps with receiving personalized assistance after the session. \nThis webinar is approved for 1.5 hours of RACE CE credits for veterinarians and veterinary technicians (non-medical/interactive category). CE credits will be provided FREE to current HSVMA members ONLY. If you are not yet an HSVMA member or need to renew your membership\, please visit the HSVMA website HERE. \nThis webinar is FREE for all attendees. This webinar is approved for 1.5 hours of RACE CE for veterinarians and veterinary technicians. RACE CE will be provided to current HSVMA members ONLY. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.hsvma.org/webinar_studentloans2

SUMMARY:Webinar - 12/15/21 - Help! Fluffy is Urinating Outside of the Litter Box Again! - ACVB (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Some of the first clinical signs of discomfort in felines manifest behaviorally\, including hiding\, biting\, eliminating outside the box\, and grooming leading to hair-loss. While there are a plethora of behavioral differential diagnoses for the above clinical signs\, it is not uncommon for medical causes to be left undiagnosed. Behavioral treatment for these covert physical diseases often prove unsuccessful\, leaving pet parents dissatisfied and cats remaining uncomfortable. This lecture will delve into the most common chief complaints to general practitioners that present behaviorally but are not truly behavioral in origin. We will then discuss the appropriate diagnostic steps to take and at which point to refer to a veterinary behaviorist\, if at all. We will end with an applied discussion on a real-life pica case! \nAbout the Presenter\n \nDr. Vanessa Spano\, DVM is a resident with the American College of Veterinary Behaviorists under the mentorship of Dr. E’Lise Christensen\, DVM\, DACVB. Having finished the clinical portion of her residency\, she has seen 600+ primary behavioral cases to date in companion animal private practice. Dr. Spano graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College at the University of Prince Edward Island in Canada in 2017 and completed her Small Animal Internal Medicine & Surgical Rotating Internship at the ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital in NYC. \nWhen she is not in the clinic\, Dr. Spano engages in research and lecturing. She is currently conducting research on low-stress handling in sheltered felines through a Fear Free(TM) grant. She has lectured for numerous veterinary hospitals and universities on behavioral psychopharmacology and the intersection of behavior and welfare and is a recurring lecturer for the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. Dr. Spano also provides behavioral consultation for a variety of shelters in the Tri-State Area\, including the ASPCA. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.dacvb.org/page/webinarseries

SUMMARY:Webinar - 12/16/21 - Denise Fenzi’s Circle Method for Basic Reactivity and Over Arousal - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is intended to provide advice\, interventions\, and skills for individuals working with reactive or overexcited dogs. “The circle method of Loose Leash Walking” will be used to help the behavior and emotional state of reactive and over-aroused dogs by allowing them to adjust to their environment\, reconnect with their handlers\, and become more emotionally comfortable in the presence of specific triggers. The method can be used regardless of food interest and does not require elaborate set-ups. \nThe information presented in this webinar will build upon the foundation webinar\, “The Fenzi Method: Cutting Corners to Loose Leash Walking” (often called the Circle method of loose leash walking)\, and will assume prerequisite knowledge of that material. To help individuals who are not familiar with that webinar it is available for purchase as a webinar recording at this time. Please see the description below. \nThis webinar assumes professional or amateur trainers who can assimilate the information with a preexisting basic working knowledge of dog behavior\, reactivity and over-aroused behavior. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/self-study/webinars
