SUMMARY:Hybrid Conference - 10/7/22 to 10/8/22 - The Gathering: A Virtual CARE Convening - CARE (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:THE GATHERING is a place to listen to proximate leaders identify their barriers and share their successes to create equitable solutions. The in-person conference takes place on Friday\, October 7 from 9am – 4pm ET and Saturday October 8 (in-person only) from 9am – 2pm ET in Philadelphia. \nWant to join virtually? You can get an all day pass to watch the Friday presentations at The Gathering virtually for just $35. \nThe Gathering is an introduction to the Human and Animal Well-being framework in which CARE’s mission-driven work is illustrated. As such\, we’ve designed a day that focuses on community wisdom and the unique perspective of Black\, Indigenous\, and other people of color identified as proximate leaders through our CARE Center program. \nCARE views this as a great opportunity for human and animal well-being stakeholders to do some deep listening and take this knowledge to contribute to opportunities with individuals and communities who lack direct engagement or investment by animal welfare. By sharing the work of people of color\, who are historically underfunded\, we hope to elevate and inspire continued collaboration and support. \nWEBSITE LINK:  http://www.eventbrite.com/e/the-gathering-a-virtual-care-convening-tickets-425035932917

SUMMARY:Webinar - 10/13/22 - Door Dashing: Get a Grip on Your Escape Artist - FDSA (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Does your home have an open-door policy? As in\, “The door’s open\, WATCH THE DOG!” \nAn open door can mean a lot of exciting things to a dog: A chance to be the first to greet whoever’s out there; an opportunity for an unauthorized adventure through the neighbourhood; an invitation to chase after a squirrel\, the mail carrier\, a cyclist\, or a moving car (yikes!). \nThis webinar will lay out all the possible ways you can get a proper grip on door dashing\, from training useful behaviours to implementing easy management tips. Attendees will be able to apply some of these immediately after the webinar. \nAn open door will no longer be something to worry about! You can finally rest assured that your dog (and others) will be safe\, even if the door is accidentally left open. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.fenzidogsportsacademy.com/index.php/self-study/webinars

SUMMARY:Webinar - 10/13/22 - "I really don't want to get bit today”: Strategies for fractious patients with Dr. Marie Hopfensperger - ACVB (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Most patients who demonstrate aggression in the veterinary setting do so out of fear. However\, these fearful and fractious patients pose a real risk to veterinary team members. These cases can also be stressful and time-consuming. This talk will focus on practical strategies and sedation plans to enhance safety and reduce stress for all parties involved. \nMarie Hopfensperger\, DVM\, DACVB is one of four board-certified veterinary behaviorists in the state of Michigan. She is an assistant professor at Michigan State University\, where she runs the Behavioral Health & Wellness service. Her areas of clinical expertise include sedation of fearful and fractious companion animals\, behavioral pharmacology\, canine and feline aggression\, and feline inappropriate elimination. Her current research is related to shelter dogs\, specifically the assessment of their behavioral health and pharmacologic interventions to support their welfare while in the shelter\, as well as evaluation of their behavior in the adoptive home environment. Dr. Hopfensperger was the first veterinarian ever to be selected as Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholars Fellow. Her focus during this fellowship was on developing a trauma-informed One Welfare model of animal-assisted therapy\, such that programming is beneficial for both human and animal participants. She is a passionate advocate for veterinary student wellbeing and is humbled to have received two teaching awards in 2021. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/7236355939125286413

SUMMARY:Grant Opportunity - 9/15/22 to 10/15/22 - Sniptember Spay/Neuter Grants - California for All Animals
DESCRIPTION:Let’s grow our spay/neuter capacity together\, California! \nWe’re doubling down on our commitment to help you provide the care and services that strengthen the bonds and remove the barriers between pets in your community and the people who care for them with Sniptember\, a 30-day spay/neuter grant blitz to continue the effort to build back our surgery capacity and relieve the bottlenecks that are keeping animals in our shelters for too long. \nMunicipal animal shelters\, private animal shelters with municipal contracts\, and private shelters are eligible to respond to this RFP\, even if they already received a California for All Animals grant this year. We know you have work to do so we’ve kept the application process simple: Submit your one-page proposal\, budget\, and estimated impact statement. \nVeterinary clinics and spay/neuter organizations without a brick and mortar intake facility are encouraged to partner with animal shelters on proposals. The shelter would act as the recipient of the funding and then contract with the spay/neuter organization for services. If you need help partnering with a shelter(s) in your region\, reach out to us at grants@californiaforallanimals.com and we’ll connect you. \nThe funding priority for this grant cycle is to increase capacity for spay/neuter services for animal shelters\, which is defined as spay/neuter of animals in the shelter\, referred by field services and those at risk of ending up in the shelter\, for example pet owners experiencing homelessness\, pet owners residing in zip codes of high intake\, and priority community animals. Operational costs associated with increasing capacity should be included in the proposal. \nRFPs will be accepted from September 15 – October 15\, 2022. Applicants will be notified via email by November 15\, 2022. Zoom sessions will be recorded if you can’t make all of them. \nContinuing Education Credits through CCPDT and IAABC. \nLimited spots available! \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://trish-s-school-bcb6.thinkific.com/courses/talking-to-clients-about-behavioral-euthanasia-2022b

SUMMARY:Webinar - 10/17/22 - Harmonious Walks: Redefining Loose-Leash Walking - PPG (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Ask any trainer why clients reach out to them for help\, and somewhere in the top three reasons you’ll often find “walking on-leash.” Owners want to fix a common problem that occurs when they’re handling their dog on leash\, usually pulling\, or playing tug with the leash. \nIn this session\, we’ll cover how to achieve harmonious walks. Nancy will move away from focusing on the traditional heeling behavior\, and towards recognizing and meeting dogs’ needs through foundation skills and on-leash games that anyone can do. “Harmonious walks” means everyone wins: Happy dogs\, and happy clients. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nLearn how to help your clients attain that elusive “loose-leash walking” behavior in the most enjoyable way.\n\nCEUs: PPAB 1\, CCPDT (pending)\, IAABC (pending)\, KPA (pending) \nAbout the Presenter\nNancy Tucker is a certified trainer with the CCPDT and a fully certified behavior consultant with the IAABC. She teaches seminars\, webinars\, and workshops on dog training\, dog behavior\, and the business end of training throughout Canada\, the US\, and Europe. She has presented at conferences for the Pet Professional Guild\, the IAABC\, the Dog Event in France\, the WOOF! conference in the UK\, and The Lemonade Conference. \nShe teaches online courses focusing on various topics including how to resolve separation anxiety\, how to use desensitization and counterconditioning to address fearful behaviors\, and how to tackle other common behavior issues. \nNancy has written numerous articles on dog behavior and has a professional background in public relations and copywriting. She shares her home in Quebec\, Canada with her husband and their ridiculously cute border terrier\, Bennigan. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://petprofessionalguild.com/event-4952645
