SUMMARY:Webinar - 9/3/20 - Supporting Domestic Violence Survivors and their Pets through Collaboration - NACA/Justice Clearinghouse
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will discuss the importance of cross-sector collaboration in supporting domestic violence survivors and their pets.  It will focus on overcoming barriers to creating pet-friendly programs at shelters and will cover everything from lack of space\, to allergies and liability to funding. A successful pet-friendly program is possible and can become a fundraising tool by focusing on building collaborative partnerships and creating a thorough program plan.  This webinar is intended for anyone who interacts with domestic violence survivors and/or their pets. \n  \n  \n  \n\n \n  \n  \nThe National Law Enforcement Center on Animal Abuse was established by the National Sheriffs’ Association to provide law enforcement officers information on the realities of animal abuse and to promote their proactive involvement in the enforcement of animal abuse laws in their communities. Through our partners\, the Center will serve as an information clearinghouse and forum for law enforcement on the growing problem of animal abuse and its link to other types of crimes\, including violence against humans. The Center also promotes officer safety in officer-dog encounters through continuing education and training. \n  \n \n  \nThe National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA) was formed in 1978 for the express purpose of assisting its members to perform their duties in a professional manner. We believe only carefully selected and properly trained animal control personnel can correct community problems resulting from irresponsible animal ownership. NACA’s purpose is to preserve the Human/Animal Bond by insisting on responsible animal ownership. \n  \n\nPresenters:\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\nKatie Campbell is the Outreach Manager for RedRover and has worked with nonprofits for 10-plus years. During this time she has worked with diverse communities across racial\, ethnic\, and economic lines in positions ranging from front line service to management roles.  She has worked closely with survivors of domestic violence\, as well as other individuals at risk\, and with many nonprofits serving these communities. Katie is a firm believer that more can be accomplished when organizations work together and with the community rather than in silos. \nKatie’s educational background includes an M.A. in Sociology from Sacramento State University\, which she credits with furthering her passion for listening and learning from others.  Her work at RedRover brings together two of her greatest passions: working with people and supporting the welfare of animals. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.justiceclearinghouse.com/webinar/supporting-domestic-violence-survivors-and-their-pets-through-collaboration/

SUMMARY:Webinar - 9/1/20 - Radical Return to Owner - Keeping Families Together - HSUS
DESCRIPTION:While adoption rates have improved substantially in recent years\, nationwide there has been minimal improvement in return-to-owner statistics. Shelters will always be necessary safe havens for pets who truly do not have a home\, but inflexible policies and expensive fees still leave too many animals branded as “homeless” even when they have an owner. Countless people are faced with the choice of paying exorbitant costs or leaving their pet in the shelter\, which for many is no choice at all. Now that interstate animal transports have become extremely common\, it is more crucial than ever for organizations to consider the difficulties some pet owners have in redeeming their pets. \nJoin us to hear from shelter leaders from across the country about how they are using innovative strategies to drive positive outcomes and reunite pets with the people who love them. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://humanesociety.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_54QIu5V5RDOfKBq8YLFX0w

I’ve also been able to identify and connect to colleagues working on the same issues in similar communities.”  \nDr. Ellen Jefferson\, Executive Director at Austin Pets Alive! adds\, “We hear from people in the industry who have important information related to COVID\, new programming and research.  This is information you can’t possibly get in your day to day work at your local shelter.”  \nIf you’re a shelter professional\, dedicated volunteer or run a rescue organization\, we want you to join us! Bookmark the link below and we will see you on Monday! \nNote: The calls are recorded so if you can’t make it\, you can listen in later.
