While so many individuals and organizations have embraced its framework\, the need to think critically about adoption processes remains. In this updated four-part webinar series\, attendees will learn how to identify barriers and develop the skills to create a more inclusive\, welcoming\, and conversational adoption program. \nIn the first webinar of the series\, learn what Adopters Welcome is and what it isn’t\, how it can build community engagement and help more animals. SUMMARY:Webinar - 3/13/25 - Maddie’s Insights: Helping the Helpers - Improving Shelter Staff Well-Being - Maddie's Fund
DESCRIPTION:Shelters and rescue groups have shown great resilience\, finding innovative ways to save animals despite major challenges. However\, many workers face burnout and compassion fatigue\, leading some to leave the field. \n\n\n\n\nIn 2023\, Best Friends conducted the largest U.S. survey on shelter staff well-being. Nearly half of respondents reported high compassion satisfaction\, and most plan to stay in their roles. Yet\, over half showed high burnout\, and over 90% had high compassion fatigue\, raising concerns about staff well-being and the sustainability of lifesaving efforts. \nThis presentation will focus on positive solutions and how shelters can learn from veterinary well-being practices to support staff and volunteers. \n\n\n\n\nHave questions or comments about this topic? Engage with our guest speaker on this Maddie’s Pet Forum discussion thread. https://maddies.fund/MIwebcast03132025 \nRegister now: http://maddies.fund/MIwebcastsRegister

SUMMARY:Webinar - 1/14/25 - Happy Pills: Teaching Dogs to Swallow Pills/Take Medicine - Dog iBox (fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:No\, this webinar isn’t about antidepressants. It’s about teaching your dog to swallow pills. Naked pills. This is a core husbandry behavior – a component of cooperative healthcare. Though hiding medication in food or pill-pockets often works\, it can backfire. You might find yourself needing to be ever more creative about what tasty food can disguise the pill. And sometimes\, the bitter taste or weird sensation in the throat will become associated with food\, causing your dog to hesitate when offered any treat or meal. We’ll look at some options for shaping voluntary pill-swallowing\, which is an extension of the “trick” of fluent eating. Kathy’s experience working with zoo animals provides inspiration to share this information with everyone who cares for a dog. \nPresenter: Kathy Sdao \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.dog-ibox.com/en/teaching-dogs-to-swallow-pills-take-medicine.html

SUMMARY:Webinar - 3/15/25 - Trapper’s Tips and Tricks Certification Workshop - Community Cats Podcast (small fee applies)
DESCRIPTION:Drawing from over 20 years of experience working with feral cats\, the folks at Neighborhood Cats have gathered together their favorite ways of catching the wiliest of felines. \nWhether it’s putting in a clear rear door\, using Spam as bait\, wrapping your trap with green garden netting\, or training a cat to enter a trap\, you’re bound to learn something new that will improve your trapping success. \nTake advantage of the interactive format\, extensive handouts\, and real-life video footage from actual projects. Attendees will receive a certificate of attendance and access to a dedicated Facebook group for ongoing networking with fellow TNR advocates. \nThis session is led by Susan Richmond\, Executive Director\, and Bryan Kortis\, National Programs Director\, and lasts 2 hours\, followed by an optional 15-minute Q&A session. Registration is just $10.00. \nWEBSITE LINK:  https://www.communitycatspodcast.com/events/trappers-tips-and-tricks-presented-by-neighborhood-cats-march-2025/
