The California Animal Welfare Funders Collaborative is excited to offer another year of funding to animal services agencies across the state.
With the addition of two new funders, California Community Foundation and California for All Animals, there is more funding available than before!
The grant application window will be open from Monday, March 28, 2022 and run through Monday, April 11, 2022.

Grant requirements:
- Projects should propose innovative ideas in improving animal welfare, preserving human-animal connections, lifesaving, or field services programs.
- New or expanded project that extend above and beyond your existing work.
- NEW THIS YEAR: Applications will also qualify if the project/program helped you pivot your response to challenges (staffing shortages, pandemic-related operations, etc.) faced in the current animal welfare landscape.
- Applicant must be a private or government shelter or animal control agency in Californi
- Note – Private or government shelters or animal control agencies may co-apply with a rescue organization, but the shelter / animal control agency must be the main applicant. If awarded and want/need your grant funds to be routed to your co-applicant please note that in your application.
- There is no maximum amount an organization can apply for, but keep in mind the average CAWFC grant award. Last year’s grant awards ranged from $1,500 to $40,000 with the average gift being just under $11,000.
- Grant cycle will begin July 1, 2022 and all funds must be spent by June 30, 2023.
- Grantees will be required to submit quarterly reports noting amount spent and grant impacts.
- Current CAWFC 2021/2022 grant holders may apply.
