ASPCAPro Presents: Nosework is an amazing sport/activity for shelter dogs – pet owners are becoming involved in this training in record numbers.  It uses positive reinforcement, helps dogs to develop confidence and optimism and doesn’t require dogs to interact with each other to be successful. Every day more dogs are being used by government agencies to find drugs, explosives, human remains, and other animal species. At the same time, pet owners have discovered the sport of canine nose work and are enjoying the benefits of this engaging and stimulating activity. There is much we do not know about the canine olfaction system and what factors may influence a dog’s ability to perform scent work appropriately.
