Webinar – 10/13/22 – Door Dashing: Get a Grip on Your Escape Artist – FDSA (fee applies)

Does your home have an open-door policy? As in, “The door’s open, WATCH THE DOG!”

An open door can mean a lot of exciting things to a dog: A chance to be the first to greet whoever’s out there; an opportunity for an unauthorized adventure through the neighbourhood; an invitation to chase after a squirrel, the mail carrier, a cyclist, or a moving car (yikes!).

This webinar will lay out all the possible ways you can get a proper grip on door dashing, from training useful behaviours to implementing easy management tips. Attendees will be able to apply some of these immediately after the webinar.

An open door will no longer be something to worry about! You can finally rest assured that your dog (and others) will be safe, even if the door is accidentally left open.

Webinar – 11/2/22 – Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Zoomies: Pathway Planning: Get on Track to Save More Lives! – ASPCApro

One of the most critical, yet often overlooked, steps in the shelter intake process is pathway planning. Pathway planning from day 1 (or before!) can help ensure that animals in your care have a humane, enriched, and efficient stay in the shelter.

During this webinar, we’ll share tips you can use throughout an animal’s stay to keep them cruising along their path (or help them take an appropriate detour), including population rounds, pre-selection, foster-to-adopt, and other lifesaving programs.

    Takeaways

    • Understand how pathway planning can decrease length-of-stay and help you maintain your capacity for care
    • Identify potential pathway roadblocks and solutions to break through
    • Learn tools to help keep the flow of animals moving

    Suited For

Online Course – Starts 1/11/23 – Fundamentals of Ethology – IAABC (fee applies)

Think outside the Skinner box! Ethology is the scientific and objective study of how animals behave in the real world. This course will teach you the core concepts of ethology — how animals see their world, and why they behave the way they do.

You’ll learn how the environment, individual personality, and genetics all interact. This course is great for anyone new to ethology, working or interested in sheltering, zoos, training, and behavior, and everyone interested in getting the most out of their relationship with a companion animal, personal or professional.

Ethology is the study of animal behavior and its evolution, and is a key factor in having true expertise in the understanding of animals.

    • How do animals see and interact with their world?
    • What does this mean in terms of how they behave?
    • How will this change and enhance your understanding of behavior?
    • How can this understanding dramatically improve your ability to work with, and help animals?

An understanding of ethology, and the exploration of these questions will forever change how you think about the animals we live and work with.

    Online Event – 10/27/22 – Maddie’s® Candid Conversation with Geraldine D’Silva – Maddie’s Fund

Growing up in India, Geraldine developed a deep understanding of equality and the human / animal bond. From an early age, she’d care for stray dogs in her neighborhood – feeding them and taking them to a local shelter. Later, that compassion expanded using her degree in Sociology which took her to remote villages to study the caste system and women’s empowerment, and then volunteering with those experiencing homelessness. An M.B.A. from the Edinburgh Business School gave her even greater skills, but as a foreigner both in Scotland and then in the U.S., finding meaningful work was a serious challenge. Join us to hear about her journey across the globe and what inspired her to be courageous in the face of adversity.

Maddie’s Fund Executive Leadership Team member Mary Ippoliti-Smith hosts the discussion and Q+A. Afterwards, continue the conversation with Geraldine on Maddie’s Pet Forum: https://maddies.fund/candidconvoGeraldineDSilva

The program will be recorded and made available on Maddie’s University for continuing education credit for both CAWA and NACA.

With work experience in three continents and over 10 years of operational leadership, Geraldine has a passion for building innovative community programs and strategic partnerships to bridge the gap between human and animal well-being, to increase access to care. She led a small non-profit through a merger & acquisition with one of the largest animal welfare organizations in the US, and over 8 years strategically helped integrate the services throughout the 140-year-old animal shelter, enabling it to pivot to the new community-centered model that is now unfolding. Brought up in India, she did her B.A. in Sociology which took her to remote villages to study the caste system and women’s empowerment. She has an M.B.A. from the Edinburgh Business School in Scotland and a background in research consultancy, advertising and branding.

  • Hybrid Conference – 10/7/22 to 10/8/22 – The Gathering: A Virtual CARE Convening – CARE (fee applies)

Hybrid Conference – 10/7/22 to 10/8/22 – The Gathering: A Virtual CARE Convening – CARE (fee applies)

THE GATHERING is a place to listen to proximate leaders identify their barriers and share their successes to create equitable solutions. The in-person conference takes place on Friday, October 7 from 9am – 4pm ET and Saturday October 8 (in-person only) from 9am – 2pm ET in Philadelphia.

Want to join virtually? You can get an all day pass to watch the Friday presentations at The Gathering virtually for just $35.

The Gathering is an introduction to the Human and Animal Well-being framework in which CARE’s mission-driven work is illustrated. As such, we’ve designed a day that focuses on community wisdom and the unique perspective of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color identified as proximate leaders through our CARE Center program.

CARE views this as a great opportunity for human and animal well-being stakeholders to do some deep listening and take this knowledge to contribute to opportunities with individuals and communities who lack direct engagement or investment by animal welfare. By sharing the work of people of color, who are historically underfunded, we hope to elevate and inspire continued collaboration and support.
