These Terms of Use apply to any access or use of the Site by you (“you,” “your,” or “User”). By accessing, browsing, or otherwise using the Site, you agree to these Terms of Use and consent to our use of information as set forth in our Privacy Policy – on behalf of yourself and (if applicable) your employer or other organization. If your use of the Site is in the course and scope of your employment or otherwise on behalf of an organization, you represent and warrant that you have the power and authority to act on behalf of your employer or that organization in agreeing to these Terms of Use.

Use of ths Site (ShelterMedPortal)

We grant you a limited, revocable, nonexclusive, non-transferable license to access and use the Sites for non-commercial use only.

To the extent that we have the necessary applicable rights, we further grant you a personal, limited, revocable, nonexclusive, non-transferable license to cite, quote, or re-publish reasonable portions of content on the Sites for non-commercial use only – provided that you include an appropriate credit to us as the source of the content. For clarity, we may terminate this license at any time. The information contained in webinars, videos and related materials has been prepared, compiled, or provided by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program as a service to participants and viewers and is not intended to constitute the rendering of legal, consulting, or other professional services of any kind. The opinions expressed by presenters/instructors are their own and do not necessarily represent those of the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Use of the ShelterMedPortal

Views expressed on the ShelterMedPortal are not endorsed by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program.

We may or may not prescreen information submitted by users of ShelterMedPortal. We retain the right, but not the responsibility, to edit or remove any Submission, including those deemed by us to violate the Agreement. We will make good faith efforts to investigate allegations that Submissions violate the Agreement but (a) makes no warranty to you that it will edit, remove, or continue to permit the display of any specific Submission, whether or not subject to such allegations, and (b) will have no liability whatsoever for editing, removing, or continuing to permit the display of any Submission whatsoever.

We may respond to questions but do not formally provide technical support on the ShelterMedPortal. Any information that is provided by us is offered on an “AS IS” basis without warranties of any kind.

ShelterMedPortal Learning Platform

Use of the ShelterMedPortal is subject to the Terms of Use of this website. Inquiries and responses are for general information purposes only, and should not be relied on as a substitute for in-person evaluation or specific professional (e.g., veterinary, behavior expert, legal, or other professional) advice.  Use of the Portal and it’s Learning Platform, groups, forums, messaging and other features does not create any attorney-client or doctor-patient relationships between users and the administrators of the site, staff, or volunteers who interact with users of the site’s features. Applicable laws, regulations, standards, practices, procedures, and other governing authorities may differ depending on the user’s location, and users should seek information specific to their situation through an in-person evaluation or visit with a licensed professional.  

Communications via the ShelterMedPortal are not confidential and shall not be the subject of any associated privileges. Communications are limited to general information as described above, do not involve in-person evaluations or visits, and do not include safeguards and procedures typical of in-person evaluations and visits.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Membership

Membership information is collected when you elect to become a member and fill out our request form or when you respond to a survey question or make a request for information.

The Site is a general-audience website, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are under the age of 13, you should not and may not provide any personal information to us through or on the Site.

In using the Site, you have the option of signing up to be on our general UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program mailing list to receive electronic or other communications from us, such as when you click on the option to “Subscribe to Our Newsletter.” In signing up, you will be asked to provide your e-mail address or other forms of contact information, and you will have the option to provide information such as your name and company name (if applicable).

We use this information to send you our eNewsletter. We will also use this information periodically to send you other communications that we believe will be of interest to you, such as those containing information relating to our programs, grants, conferences, campaigns, and other information that pertains to our activities or more broadly to the status and well-being of shelter animals and the animal sheltering industry (as well as related topics).

Out of respect for your privacy, we provide you a way to unsubscribe and thereby be removed from our mailing list. Please see the “Choice and Opt-out” section.

By registering for this site you will also be included in any general mailings directly from this site about online courses being opened or having additional material added to them. We may on a scheduled or intermittent basis send you updates about other site content – such as upcoming webinars or events. You may opt out of these mailings at any time.

Groups you join will also give you the option to determine if you want to receive emails about group activity and the type or frequency of such mailings (or you may opt out of those mailings).

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the members of this site (or of the group or forum where you posted if in a private group or forum) in the context of your comment.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.

Cookies

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
