The Puppy Puzzle: Data-driven Insights into America’s New Dogs

Current sources of data on U.S. puppy “creation” reveal how much isn’t known about where puppies come from. To help fill the gap, a survey of 4,000 people (selected to align with the U.S. Census demographics) who recently acquired a puppy offers insights into the breeds and sources of new puppies, owners’ acquisition journeys, satisfaction with both puppy and that puppy’s source, and more. Survey responses offer new data and insights that fill in knowledge gaps; identify issues and concerns that deserve further attention across animal sectors; and reveal the complexity and diversity of experiences among puppies and their people.
