Only some of these events are produced by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Most are being created and sponsored by other groups and agencies. Being listed here does not mean that we have reviewed the material contained. We are trying to provide a variety of resources to hopefully help make your life a little easier. Pet Professional Guild Presents (fee applies): What do (and don't) we know about how genetics affects canine aggression? In this webinar, Jessica Hekman will take a deep dive into her own area of research - how genetics affects personality in dogs. How much of canine personality is due to genetics and how much to environment? How do researchers track down genes related to personality? Have any such genes yet been found? Can we expect a genetic test for dog reactivity any time soon? In this webinar, Jessica will particularly address examples from human literature about traits that are similar to reactivity and aggression in dogs, why they are so hard to understand from a genetics viewpoint, and what the future holds for us.

NACA/Justice Clearinghouse Presents: There comes a time in every investigator’s career that cats and dogs are part of a case, whether centrally, as seen in situations of animal cruelty, or peripherally, as often seen in domestic violence calls. In many of these situations, you may need to document the animals’ condition without the assistance of a veterinarian or experienced humane law enforcement officer. Do you know what you are looking for, and what to put on the record? This webinar will take you through the basic logistics of documenting an animal’s condition- nose to tail- including physical and behavioral characteristics, how to make it part of the record so it holds up in court, and preserving your case when the evidence is alive.

AmPa! Presents: The AmPA! weekly Maddie's Instructor Summit offers shelters and rescues a chance to talk through the most current animal sheltering challenges! Topics will change each week. You'll join AmPA! and HASS Staff and industry leaders, but, more importantly, you'll be able to engage face to face (digitally!) with people like you. Because not feeling alone makes this work a lot easier.
NACA/Justice Clearinghouse Presents: Building a successful animal management program from the ground up is challenging at the best of times but throw in the mix a low socio-economic area, poor trust in AMOs, limited resources, and a long history of high enforcement. Understanding the needs of a community, difficulties in an area as well as taking a multi-agency approach to a pilot animal management program has lead to amazing success for a regional Local Government in Australia. Gaining the trust of the community became the key to creating a successful working relationship.
VDOS Presents (fee applies): This VDOS webinar will focus on the two most frustrating dental and oral conditions in cats, namely tooth resorption and stomatitis. The potential causes of these conditions will be discussed. Tips and tricks how to extract resorbing teeth will be shared, and various treatment options (medical and surgical) for feline stomatitis will be reviewed. The didactic lecture will last 1.5 hours, but the webinar is designed so that there is extra time for interactive participation and answering your questions.
