  • New Course Covers Community Cat Program Dos and Don’ts

New Course Covers Community Cat Program Dos and Don’ts

Whether you’re curious about implementing a community cat program or already have one at your shelter that you’d like to improve, Community Cat Programs Legal Considerations, the latest course in the Maddie’s® Million Pet Challenge Shelter PALS Legal Series, has you covered.

Community cat programs provide significant benefit to cats, community members, and shelters—there’s a reason Return to Field, which we now call Return to Home, was one of the five key initiatives of the Million Cat Challenge, helping shelters save over four million cats to date! Despite widespread support and documented success of these programs, questions about the legality of sterilizing, vaccinating, and returning unowned, healthy free-roaming cats to their homes can arise.

In this short, Maddie’s® Million Pet Challenge Learniverse self-paced, on-demand training module (SPOT mod), Bruce Wagman, Lead Counsel for San Francisco SPCA’s Shelter Policy and Legal Services (Shelter PALS) program, explores what community cat programs (CCPs) are, explains why CCPs are needed, and describes how effective CCPs operate within legal considerations.

You’ll learn how your shelter can address cat overpopulation and help cats thrive where they are by implementing humane, life-saving, evidence-based community cat programs, and you’ll leave with a list of important dos and don’ts surrounding:

    • Cat Eligibility
    • Intake Procedures and Flow Through the Shelter
    • Returning Cats to Their Outdoor Home
    • Program Data Collection
    • Engaging Shelter Staff and Gaining Community Support

This course has been approved for 1.0 unit of CE by CAWA, NACA and RACE.

  • Webinar – 1/12/23 – Hélène Lawler – Put Your Oxygen Mask On First: Living and Loving Dogs with Big Feelings – FDSA (fee applies)

Webinar – 1/12/23 – Hélène Lawler – Put Your Oxygen Mask On First: Living and Loving Dogs with Big Feelings – FDSA (fee applies)

When our dogs have big feelings about the world, they behave in ways that can make competing, training, and even daily life a challenge.

Thankfully, there are now countless resources to help our dogs: Behaviourists, training specialists, medications, on-line training and competing options, gut-rebuilding protocols, supplements, massage and other body work, and so much more!

    But… What about YOU?

What are you doing to support YOU? To help you with the anxiety, stress, grief, disappointment, fear, or frustration that is also so often part of this picture?

Because, what’s the point of moving heaven and earth to help Spot walk calmly down the street, or up to a start line, if you’re a miserable, anxious mess at the other end of the leash?

We have dogs in our lives to bring us joy, love, and companionship. We do dog sports to have fun and find fulfillment through the process of taking that relationship to the next level.

When our dogs struggle, WE struggle. But it doesn’t have to be this way! It is possible to train yourself to feel calm and confident, even when your dog does not. And when you feel good? You make better decisions, have better response time, and can even send some of that confidence down the leash to your dog.

Join me in this webinar to learn my unique, step-by-step self-coaching process designed to help YOU help yourself feel peaceful, calm and confident so that you can reclaim the joy of training. Even if your dog’s big feelings about the world never change (although, quite often, when we feel better, so do they!)

  • Webinar – 1/5/23 – Circle Method for Basic Reactivity and Over Arousal (Part 2) – FDSA (fee applies)

Webinar – 1/5/23 – Circle Method for Basic Reactivity and Over Arousal (Part 2) – FDSA (fee applies)

This webinar is intended to provide advice, interventions, and skills for individuals working with reactive or overexcited dogs. “The circle method of Loose Leash Walking” will be used to help the behavior and emotional state of reactive and over-aroused dogs by allowing them to adjust to their environment, reconnect with their handlers, and become more emotionally comfortable in the presence of specific triggers. The method can be used regardless of food interest and does not require elaborate set-ups. The information presented will build upon the circle method of loose leash walking, and will assume knowledge of that material. This webinar assumes professional or amateur trainers who can assimilate the information with a preexisting working knowledge of dog behavior, reactivity and over-aroused behavior.

Note: This webinar is back by popular demand. Please check your webinar library before purchasing.
