    Dr. Kristina Spaulding

    Dr. Spaulding has a PhD in biopsychology – the study of the biological basis of behavior – and is a Certified Applied Animal Behaviorist through the Animal Behavior Society. She specializes in stress and behavior, social cognition and emotion, positive welfare and the prevention and treatment of behavior problems in dogs. In addition to her academic background, she has been in the dog training and behavior profession for 19 years. She currently splits her time between private behavior work and teaching other dog trainers and behavior consultants online and through seminars and conferences.

    In addition, Dr. Spaulding is a long-standing member of the APDT Education Committee. She is also a member of the Fear Free Advisory Group and an authorized Speaker for Fear Free. She also chairs a task force for Meeting of the Minds, a coalition of top dog professionals across the country charged with improving the quality of life for our dogs and is a member of the IAABC Foundation Board.     Leigh Anne’s background is in animal cruelty investigations, which comes from many years working in animal services agencies and working as a sworn law enforcement officer in North Carolina. Her role with the ASPCA is, in collaboration with others at the ASPCA, to help support the investigation and prosecution of criminal animal abuse cases.

    Level and Prerequisites: This intermediate course will be open to veterinarians actively interested in ocular emergencies.

    Course Information:
    This lecture will cover the most common ophthalmic emergencies. I will describe the best way to approach and fix these emergencies. I will show an easier technique to replace proposed globes and tackle that pesky figure of eight suture for eyelid lacerations. The options for corneal perforations and bad ulcers. I will also cover how to figure out where that lens has misplaced itself – the front or the back. Lastly, I will cover sudden blindness and orbital disease. We will cover the eye from front to back.

    Objectives: Upon completion of this session, the participant should be able to

    About the Presenter:
    Erica Tolar received her DVM from University of Illinois in 2003. She did a small animal rotating internship at the University of Tennessee and a residency in ophthalmology at the University of Illinois. She received your diplomate of American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists (ACVO) Ophthalmology in 2007. She is currently working at a Private referral practice and a private equine ophthalmology practice in Louisville, KY. She is also an ophthalmology consultant on VIN.
