Webinar – 8/12/20 – How to Use the Found Animals system to Benefit Your Life-Saving Efforts – AmPa!

In this session, we will jump into a hands-on approach to using the Michelson Found Animals free registry to manage the animals you foster, or pull from local shelters. Shelter personnel that oversee rescue and foster networks will also benefit from this. This session will be in three parts:

    1. Explain and review microchips costs, why Found Animals is 100% free, and review our mission to be a partner in life-saving efforts.

    2. In this section, we will invite one person that oversees a rescue or a foster network that does NOT use Found Animals. I will do a quick interview and learn more about their mission, and walk them through how a free account with us can save time, effort, and money. We’ll walk through creating an account together, adding animals, and processing a transfer of ownership (adoption) over to another user. In short, this will be a practical exercise that everyone can follow along with and leave the webinar with a clear understanding of how Found Animals can help their organization, big or small.

    3. Q&A with the attendees. This is pretty self-explanatory and will add a huge amount of value as unique questions will likely come up. This will help others have some “Aha” moments and see how FA best fits into their program.

Webinar for HSVMA Members – 8/5/20 – The Piglet Mindset: Inclusion and Education in Today’s Veterinary Profession – HSVMA

At the next installment of our Student Summer Lecture Series, Dr. Melissa Shapiro will present The Piglet Mindset: Inclusion and Education in Today’s Veterinary Profession on Wednesday, August 5, at 4 pm PT. (Professionals welcome, too!)
Dr. Melissa Shapiro will share her story about her dog, Piglet, who was rescued from a hoarding situation. Due to irresponsible breeding, Piglet was born blind and deaf but thrives despite his disabilities. Dr. Shapiro and Piglet educate the public about the importance of spay/neuter and encourage adoption of special needs animals. Webinar – 8/13/20 – Thinking Differently About Websites – Virox

There is a fundamental mistake that we all too often make when thinking about websites: we speak to the wrong part of the brain. You might think that a pet owner is on your website to ask questions such as “who are you, what do you do, and where do you do it?” – but the real question they are asking is much older… “can I trust you?” In order to attract more high quality clients, we must turn our attention towards the limbic system; the part of the brain that regulates emotions and social relationships. In this webinar, you will learn a fundamentally different way of looking at your website, and it just might change everything about your strategy.

He believes marketing must begin with understanding the psychology of relationships and decision making. Robert has a background in philosophy, which he believes instrumental in spotting hidden assumptions. Robert frequently lectures at national conferences, leads a team of wonderful employees, sits on the board of VetPartners, and shares his home with two very spoiled dogs – Cole and Lula.

Lisa LaFontaine (Humane Rescue Alliance), Bobby Mann (AmPA), Dr. Ellen Jefferson (AmPA) and Dr. Gary Weitzman (San Diego Humane Society)

The animal sheltering system as we know it was created more than 100 years ago and depended on addressing animal issues separately from human issues. Today, many recognize we are long overdue for a new approach that is in line with human social services, social justice movements, and considers animals as part of family systems.

Join members of the Executive Committee and some of the animal shelter directors involved in the Human Animal Social Services coalition (HASS). Hear about how collaboration with shelters around the country prototyping an entirely new system to serve pets and people in our communities. This session will clarify the tenets of HASS, dispel any misinformation and ultimately, encourage other organizations to consider a reimagining of animal sheltering.
