More than 2/3 of all American households include a pet, and pets are often a child’s most trusted and treasured connection. As community leaders we have a responsibility to help ensure these human-nonhuman connections are healthy and protected, and we have an opportunity to play a transformative role in the lives of all community members. Common frustrations, questions, and situations will be discussed and resources will be given to aid in easing future human-animal conflicts and crises. Attendees will learn:
- Conversations to have with children about their pets to foster a healthy child – authority relationship
- Conversations to have with adults about their pets to foster a safer environment for animals and people
- Key information for basic canine communication that can reduce incidents and crises
- Online resources to print for kids and families, and other humane education resources to consider.
