The Dog Aging Project is an innovative and enormous initiative that brings together a community of dogs, owners, veterinarians, researchers, and volunteers to carry out the most ambitious canine health study in the world. It is a longitudinal study of aging in over 37,000 American dogs. Its work is centered on two fundamental goals:

- intervening to increase health span, the period of life spent free from disease.
The presentation will allow practitioners the following objectives/ skills:
- A general understanding of what the Dog Aging Project is and how it collects data
- Understanding of what community science is
- Being able to define “health span”
- Understanding of factors that were reported to be the cause of death in this population of dogs
- Understanding of what frailty is and what affects it
- Being able to define cachexia and sarcopenia
- Understanding of how you can get involved and support this project
