Maddie’s Fund Presents: In this presentation, results will be shared from a new study assessing using a standardized behavior modification program and daily gabapentin administration to treat fearful cats from hoarding environments. Further, instructions and resources for conducting behavior modification in shelters will be shared, along with a summary of a growing body of research and in-shelter experience demonstrating that many fearful cats from hoarding environments are treatable in shelters and can have positive outcomes in homes.

NACA/Justice Clearinghouse Presents: The term “community engagement” gets thrown around a lot, as if it is something that an officer can do if they have a few extra minutes. To unlock the full potential of community engagement, however, we must start thinking of it as less of a project and more of a state of mind. Keeping our patients under threshold while in the hospital is critical and learning alternate ways to handle a fearful animal is needed to keep the staff safe.

HSVMA Presents: The presentation will explain the importance of preventative cancer recommendations for canine patients in the primary care setting. Several common canine cancers have been shown to be related to environmental chemical exposures. This presentation will identify specific environmental chemical exposures associated with specific cancers in dogs, or in people with analogous cancers.
