This calendar is a listing of webinars, other learning opportunities, online meetings and other upcoming national events related to animal sheltering and related areas of interest.
Only some of these events are produced by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Most are being created and sponsored by other groups and agencies. Being listed here does not mean that we have reviewed the material contained. We are trying to provide a variety of resources to hopefully help make your life a little easier. Maddie's Fund Presents: Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, animal shelter workers, volunteers and animal welfare leaders from across the country have been meeting every Monday morning - NEW TIME 8 AM PT/11 AM ET as of 9/23/20 - to discuss protocols, ideas, obstacles they’re facing and more.

VIN Presents (fee applies): This lecture will cover the most common ophthalmic emergencies. Erica Tolar, DVM, ACVO, will describe the best way to approach and fix these emergencies, show an easier technique to replace proposed globes and tackle that pesky figure of eight suture for eyelid lacerations. Tolar will also cover the options for corneal perforations and bad ulcers, and how to figure out where that lens has misplaced itself - the front or the back. Lastly, he will cover sudden blindness and orbital disease.
AmPa! Presents: The AmPA! weekly Maddie's Instructor Summit offers shelters and rescues a chance to talk through the most current animal sheltering challenges! Topics will change each week. You'll join AmPA! and HASS Staff and industry leaders, but, more importantly, you'll be able to engage face to face (digitally!) with people like you. Because not feeling alone makes this work a lot easier.
NACA/Justice Clearinghouse Present: Assessment processes for dogs in shelters have changed dramatically in recent years, with research findings driving a fundamental shift away from short, provocative battery-style behaviour tests to holistic, information-gathering assessment processes. Come join Trish and Di to find out more about the research underpinning this seismic shift in procedure, and how you can move towards a more modern and holistic model for assessing dog behaviour in shelters.
KSMP Presents: Join us for this week’s CASCAR discussion around the idea of empowering all shelters to provide animals in need within their communities with the Four Rights: the Right Care, in the Right Place, at the Right Time, to the Right Outcome. Dog iBox Presents (fee applies): We will discuss the validity of prevention, etiology, protocols, and general methodologies that are required for separation anxiety in dogs. If your puppy or dog is already experiencing separation anxiety, there will be take aways for you, however, if you are simply interested in learning how to optimize a dog for alone time success, we hope to see you in the webinar.
IVS Presents (fee applies): Feline Finale - Seminar topics in this four-day course include anesthesia and analgesia, emergency medicine, endocrine disorders, and dermatologic disorders.
Virox Presents: During this session, members from the University of Florida’s Veterinary Emergency Treatment Service will share how their unit has responded to state disasters and local emergencies in the past, and what has changed since COVID-19. This discussion will include how to prepare for a disaster impacting your community, as well as how to get involved in emergency and disaster response.
KSMP Presents: Dr. Jena Valdez, SF SPCA Director of Community Medicine, will share how the SF SPCA expanded their access to care by creating a community clinic, now celebrating its first birthday, to support historically underserved communities within their city. Learn how the staff made the case to open the clinic to their senior leadership and board, what services they offer, how many patients they are serving, staffing levels, clinic design, pricing, client flow, clinic hours, advertising, and Covid considerations.

NACA/Justice Clearinghouse Present: This webinar will help you learn how to be ready to emergency shelter animals by identifying the supplies you’ll need and valuable partnerships to make. You will also learn how to get the outside help you might need if local resources become overwhelmed. Finally, this webinar will teach you some basic practices that will help you keep animals and their families together during the challenge and chaos of the natural disaster.
Karen Pryor Academy Presents: This week, Ken Ramirez, KPCT’s Chief Training Officer, will be joined by artist Lili Chin to talk about doggie language translation. Then, participants will get an inside look at how Ken structures and conducts an initial training session for clients and dogs who are brand new to training!
FDSA Presents (fee applies): In this webinar we will discuss fear, anxiety, frustration and over-arousal. We will look at common genetic traits that can lead to behavioral issues, and discuss various behavior-modifying techniques for reactivity, and the performance of aggressive behaviors toward people and dogs. We will also identify key behaviors that indicate it is time to seek out help from a veterinary behavior specialist.
