This calendar is a listing of webinars, other learning opportunities, online meetings and other upcoming national events related to animal sheltering and related areas of interest.
Only some of these events are produced by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Most are being created and sponsored by other groups and agencies. Being listed here does not mean that we have reviewed the material contained. We are trying to provide a variety of resources to hopefully help make your life a little easier. Community Cats Podcast Presents: Drawing from almost 20 years of experience working with feral cats, the folks at Neighborhood Cats have gathered together their favorite ways of catching the wiliest of felines. Whether it's putting in a clear rear door, using Spam as bait, wrapping your trap with green garden netting or training a cat to enter a trap, you're bound to learn something new that will improve your trapping success.
WSAVA and FECAVA Present (fee applies): A joint congress of the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and the Federation of European Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA), hosted by the Polish Small Animal Veterinary Association will take place as a virtual event. The preliminary program includes topics such as market transformation, standards in general practice, educational considerations such as current tendencies & needs, and proposals for specialization and CPD in the region.

VETGirl Presents: In this complimentary VETgirl–MiraVista webinar, Dr. Andrew Hanzlicek, DVM, MS, DACVIM will provide a clinical review of anti-fungal treatment recommendations for common invasive fungal infections (e.g., blastomycosis, histoplasmosis, coccidioidomycosis, cryptococcosis, opportunistic molds) in dogs and cats. This lecture will also include a brief historical review and a look at what the future holds for antifungal therapies in veterinary medicine.

The main emphasis of the seminars will be to give you practical information that you can readily utilize in your practice- along with providing information on the current treatments being offered at the referral centers. Drs. Johnson & Oswald are known to be very personable speakers who approach clinical problems very practically.
Maddie's Fund Presents: Maddie’s Fund, in concert with American Pets Alive!, hosts a weekly hour-long Zoom call for animal welfare workers and volunteers. While these calls started out as a response to COVID-19, it’s grown into so much more. These calls are a safe place to discuss uncomfortable topics, all while sharing a common goal of preserving the human-animal bond.

UW and ASV Present: UW & ASV will be holding a series of shelter medicine national rounds sessions for veterinarians to learn and hear from our colleagues about the challenges you face practicing shelter medicine and the implications of these challenges on animal sheltering and community wellbeing. This first session will focus on the relationship of HQHVSN to access to care.

ACVB Presents (fee applies): We all look forward to puppy and kitten appointments, but when the patient shows signs of an emotional disorder, things get muddy. Join us for this video and picture filled webinar where you will learn which treatments have been proven to work for fear, aggression, and anxiety in puppies and kittens (and which ones do not), how to recognize abnormal behavior patterns and the early interventions which can help to slow the progression of emotional disorders.
VIN/VSPN Presents (fee applies): This course will cover the key concepts regarding point of care ultrasound (POCUS). POCUS techniques are rapid, easy-to-learn and practical ultrasound skills that ANY practitioner can apply in everyday practice. This co-lecture series by a criticalist and an internist will cover the core principles to understand and interpret sonographic findings of abdominal POCUS including the identification of free fluid, urine production, GI motility, free abdominal air and the gall bladder halo sign.
