Webinar – 10/19/22 – Rabbits, the New Cat? Embrace Treating Rabbits with Confidence – HSVMA

Domestic rabbits are the third most popular pet in the United States, and not surprisingly, the third most common pet found in animal shelters. Many general practitioners are not comfortable with rabbit medicine and surgery, however there is a need for expanding these services. This presentation will go over basic rabbit husbandry, some of the more common rabbit diseases, as well as touch on the importance of and techniques for rabbit spay and neuter.

What skills will an attendee receive after attending this presentation?

    • A basic understanding of the environmental and behavioral needs of rabbits and their relation to disease
    • Dietary recommendations for rabbits and diseases associated with inappropriate diets
    • Knowledge of common medical conditions and treatment options in rabbits
    • A better understanding of rabbit hemorrhagic disease virus 2 in rabbits and it’s recent introduction to the United States
    • An understanding of anesthetic protocols and considerations for rabbits
    • An understanding of rabbit spay/neuter techniques and where to find further resources on the topic

This webinar is FREE for all attendees. 1.5 hours of RACE CE credits (medical) will be available for HSVMA members only (RACE approval pending).

Webinar – 9/7/22 – 3 Steps to Build a Wildly Engaged Community – Network for Good

Make your nonprofit more than a mission, make it a movement.

Community organizing is our nonprofit superpower. When we galvanize our people into a movement of engaged advocates – demanding change for the communities and causes they care about – everything else gets easier… fundraising, board leadership, strategic partnerships, and capacity building.

By investing in your mission, donors and partners are rooting for you to be their ‘representative’ and leverage their collective voice and influence for big impact.

In this session, we’ll explore key strategies to galvanize a more inclusive, diverse, and fired-up coalition of change makers ready to make the bold moves needed to fast track your big vision – no matter how many database contacts you currently have.

Participants will explore key steps to:

    1. Hone your magnetic message to attract the right donors and partners who are ready to give
    2. Simplify and target your fundraising efforts to raise more money with less struggle
    3. Engage and leverage your community to fast-track your vision

  • Webinar – 12/1/22 – Community Engagement: The Lifesaving Philosophy – NACA/Justice Clearinghouse

    Webinar – 12/1/22 – Community Engagement: The Lifesaving Philosophy – NACA/Justice Clearinghouse

The term “community engagement” gets thrown around a lot, as if it is something that an officer can do if they have a few extra minutes.  To unlock the full potential of community engagement, however, we must start thinking of it as less of a project and more of a state of mind. This lifesaving philosophy will not only help save the lives of animals but could potentially save an officer’s life as well.  In this course you will learn how embracing community engagement as a mindset can, and will, increase lifesaving efforts and officer safety.

This webinar has been certified by the National Animal Care & Control Association and is approved for 1 Continuing Education Unit.

    Presenter:

Nick Walton is the National Shelter Support Manager for Best Friends Animal Society, providing leadership and training for strategic shelter partners across the country. Through Best Friends’ national shelter support program, Nick conducts professional shelter operations and field assessments, and leads progressive, humane trainings for animal control agencies and officers.

Prior to joining Best Friends and serving as the behavior and training coordinator for the Best Friends Lifesaving Center in Atlanta, Nick spent several years working as an animal control officer for Fulton County Animal Services through LifeLine Animal Project. Through this work, he served as Fulton County’s primary field training officer, providing professional training and development to new officers and cultivating a community-oriented approach to animal services in order to help Atlanta become a no-kill city.

Nick’s many years of experience as a dog trainer and behavior specialist combined with his commitment to keeping pets safe at home through proactive neighborhood engagement have resulted in a deep expertise in and love for community-based lifesaving. Once known around town as “the Dog Food Man,” he has a reputation for building trust and key relationships with lasting positive effects for both pets and people.

Webinar – 10/5/22 – Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Zoomies #3: Pathway Planning: Getting on Track to Save More Dogs & Cats! – ASPCApro

One of the most critical, yet often overlooked steps in the shelter intake process is pathway planning. We will discuss how pathway planning from day 1 (or before!) can help ensure that animals in your care have a humane, enriched, and efficient stay in the shelter. We’ll share tips for use throughout the animals’ stay to keep them cruising along their path (or help them take an appropriate detour) with population rounds, pre-selection, foster-to-adopt, and other lifesaving programs.
