Webinar – 1/28/21 – Continuing the Conversation on “The Lives and Deaths of Shelter Animals”: A Q&A with Katja M. Guenther – American Pets Alive!

As Human Animal Support Services moves our effort toward community involvement, what can social justice and racial justice movements teach us to help people and animals together? How can we ground ourselves in a future of animal sheltering that believes “the project for justice for animals requires justice for people and vice versa?

Join us January 28 at 5pm CST to continue our conversation with Katja M. Guenther, Ph.D. In this Q&A based webinar, we will continue to unpack Guenther’s latest work, “The Lives and Deaths of Shelter Animals.” An essential book for anyone working in animal shelters and Human Animal Support Services, Guenther writes about her vision for the “Humane Communities Revolution.” Linking animal sheltering to human ideas about race, class, gender, ability, and species, Guenther explores internal hierarchies, breed discrimination, resistance, and agency.

Let’s dive even deeper into this incredible book. Submit your questions ahead of time to webinars@americanpetsalive.org for a thought-provoking conversation with professor and author, Katja M. Guenther.

  • CASCAR Zoom Call for California Shelters – 1/21/21 – How LA County Launched Managed Intake – CASCAR – UC Davis KSMP

CASCAR Zoom Call for California Shelters – 1/21/21 – How LA County Launched Managed Intake – CASCAR – UC Davis KSMP

LA County had already begun discussing a strategic rollout of Managed Intake, but Covid came along and forced so many of our hands. Last spring, seemingly overnight, Managed Intake was launched countywide at all seven Animal Care Centers in LA County. While there wasn’t time for the communication or implementation runway they had hoped for, the team had already done their research, knew a streamlined process served more animals and people, and they were committed to their decision. Come hear about how they did it—the challenges, surprises, and the celebrations—and how they are going all-in on a larger plan for Managed Sheltering.
