Webinar – 7/15/20 – Large-Scale Animal Cruelty Seizures: Key Considerations – NACA/Justice Clearinghouse/HSUS

Preparing for a large-scale animal cruelty seizure provides exceptional challenges and can be daunting for any agency. This webinar will briefly review how to prepare for, and execute, one of these cases, from case-building through prosecution. Specifically, it will cover how to prepare for a case involving a significant number of animals, with a focus on engaging key stakeholders and securing critical physical/personnel resources. The presentation will discuss evidence documentation and sentencing considerations, unique to large-scale cases.

The National Law Enforcement Center on Animal Abuse was established by the National Sheriffs’ Association to provide law enforcement officers information on the realities of animal abuse and to promote their proactive involvement in the enforcement of animal abuse laws in their communities. Through our partners, the Center will serve as an information clearinghouse and forum for law enforcement on the growing problem of animal abuse and its link to other types of crimes, including violence against humans. The Center also promotes officer safety in officer-dog encounters through continuing education and training.
