This calendar is a listing of webinars, other learning opportunities, online meetings and other upcoming national events related to animal sheltering and related areas of interest.
Only some of these events are produced by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Most are being created and sponsored by other groups and agencies. Being listed here does not mean that we have reviewed the material contained. We are trying to provide a variety of resources to hopefully help make your life a little easier. NACA/Justice Clearinghouse Presents: We will outline what a restorative justice framework might look like as applied to animal cruelty cases – and how it could be drawn on as an option impactful for victims, offenders, and communities, building empathy, reducing recidivism, and increasing rehabilitation.
Best Friends Presents: During this town hall, panelists from three organizations varying in size and location will discuss how they increased collaboration with their community by being transparent and maximizing community resources. They will share examples of how they were able to empower and support the public using effective communication strategies.
Maddie's Fund Presents: Maddie’s Fund, in concert with American Pets Alive!, hosts a weekly hour-long Zoom call for animal welfare leaders. While these calls started out as a response to COVID-19, it’s grown into so much more. These calls are a safe place to discuss uncomfortable topics, all while sharing a common goal of preserving the human-animal bond.
ASPCAPro Presents: This webinar covers recommendations for diagnosis and treatment of toxic exposures in cats and dogs to the following substances: cholecalciferol (vitamin D), ivermectin, oleander, hydroxychloroquine/chloroquine, and herbal supplements such as colloidal silver, bitter apricot seeds, and ma huang. Exposures to bleach and other cleaning products will also be discussed.
Maddie's® Million Pet Challenge Presents: This immersive and coach-guided course will do more than help you identify new ways to improve animal welfare and wellness. It will also get you started making those improvements in less than 2 months (and your coaches will continue to support you on an ongoing basis once Bootcamp is over). Apply by 3/28/22!

Humane Network Presents: This four-session webinar series presented by Kelley Bollen, MS, CABC, is specifically designed for staff at animal shelters, rescues, and nonprofit veterinary clinics, and will cover reading dog and cat body language and safe humane handling; stress recognition and reduction in the shelter; enrichment for shelter dogs and cats; how animals learn and training dogs and cats in the shelter.
The AAWA Presents: Attendees will learn about the development of the Penn Vet Quality of Life Tool, the contents of the assessment, and the data produced by the app, including the quality-of-life scores and figures. The talk will include preliminary data about the tool’s use in animal shelters and discuss future plans for the app.
