Only some of these events are produced by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Most are being created and sponsored by other groups and agencies. Being listed here does not mean that we have reviewed the material contained. We are trying to provide a variety of resources to hopefully help make your life a little easier. IAABC Presents (fee applies): This course will help animal behavior consultants understand the impact of stress on animal behavior at each life stage and apply this information to working directly with those animals.
Maddie's Fund Presents: Maddie’s Fund, in concert with American Pets Alive!, hosts a weekly hour-long Zoom call for animal welfare workers and volunteers. While these calls started out as a response to COVID-19, it’s grown into so much more. These calls are a safe place to discuss uncomfortable topics, all while sharing a common goal of preserving the human-animal bond.
VIN/VSPN Presents (fee applies): Respiratory distress is a common presenting complaint in the emergency room and often develops in the intensive care unit. It is a life-threatening and rapidly progressing syndrome that encompasses a wide range of underlying diseases. Clinicians are faced with 1- rapidly recognizing the problem; 2- promptly stabilizing the patient; and 3- initiating the appropriate workup.
The AAWA Presents: Participants will gain the tools and messaging needed to organize grassroots and local support for a policy initiative. Participants will learn the basics of advocacy, how to put together a campaign, and what types of tools are needed for success.
AmPa! Presents: The AmPA! weekly Maddie's Instructor Summit offers shelters and rescues a chance to talk through the most current animal sheltering challenges! Topics will change each week. You'll join AmPA! and HASS Staff and industry leaders, but, more importantly, you'll be able to engage face to face (digitally!) with people like you. Shelter Playgroup Alliance Presents: Shelter Enrichment and Inter-dog Communication is the first of a two-part workshop series on the implementation of enrichment and inter-dog playgroups in shelters. During this first session we will review the components of a shelter enrichment program and discuss how inter-dog playgroups play a role. Additionally, we will take a dive into inter-canine communication signals that serve as a foundation for the management of dog playgroups.

In this free webinar from The National Kitten Coalition, we’ll discuss how to recognize hypo- and hyperthermia, hypoglycemia, dehydration and more, and get you the information you need to start intervening for your kitten right away.
Massachusetts Animal Coalition Presents: The nature of animal work means that we are susceptible to compassion fatigue. This includes the moral stress that is an unavoidable part of this work. And trauma – both personal and occupational - can play a role in how we react to stressful situations. It helps to understand what compassion fatigue is and how it can creep into our daily work. Each attendee should come out of this presentation with a better understanding of his/herself and his/her role at the shelter and in the larger animal welfare community. Specific tools will be provided for creating a plan for working toward balance and emotional health in a very difficult field. There will be a 15-minute Q&A discussion at the end.
