Online Adoption Event – 5/27/20 to 5/31/20 – Find Love Online: Best Friends Virtual Super Adoption

Join the Best Friends Network and our Lifesaving Centers for a virtual super adoption on May 27-31, 2020! The first of its kind, this national virtual event will gather adoptable animals from around the country into a central “venue” where adopters can browse, meet, and complete the check-out process in one sitting. The only thing that Network partners have to do is physically delivery or facilitate the pet’s pick up. Please register below to take part in this special event.

New network partners must apply to join the network and register by Monday, May 18, 2020. Current network partners must register by Wednesday, May 20, 2020.

We have partnered with Adopets to be our venue for the virtual event. This adoption platform provides a complete system for online applications, approval management, contract signing, and payment. Partners that choose to promote their animals on the platform for the virtual super adoption will receive a free lifetime account. Please indicate below if you would like to receive more information about Adopets. If you choose not to use Adopets, you will be able to use any website URL that currently hosts your adoptable animals (e.g., page on your website, petfinder.comadoptapet.com, etc.)

Have more questions? Check out our Frequently Asked Questions section for more information.

Want to learn more about Adopets? Check out this 2-minute video for an overview of the platform. With Adopets, you’ll have automatic integration with some shelter software, be able to remotely engage adopters, make more informed decisions with automated reports, and adopt more pets faster.

Webinar – 5/14/20 – REHOMING PROGRAMS – A proactive approach to serving your community while reducing intake. – CalAnimals

As we work together for a future where no adoptable or treatable dog or cat is euthanized, animal shelters need tools that work that empower communities to be part of the solution. Already a best practice for keeping pets out of shelters, rehoming programs are being used in communities across the USA to help pets go from one home to another without ever entering a shelter. This webinar will focus on the impact through data and story sharing, plus information on how you can have a lifesaving program in your community – even if your staff is working from home!

Webinar – 5/14/20 – The Silver Lining: COVID-19 Unexpected Best Practices – Fear Free

COVID-19 has affected all of us in various ways, from the way we educate our children, celebrate milestones, and spend time with family and friends to how we care for our veterinary clients and patients and everything in between.

It remains to be seen what our “new normal” will look like or when that will be. Yet, amongst difficulty and uncertainty, there is always a silver lining. Please join us as Michael Shirley, practice manager and co-owner of Fear Free Certified Practice Family Pet Health in Murfreesboro, TN, and Dr. Jill Lerman of Fear Free Certified Practice Jonesville Animal Hospital in Newberry, FL, discuss changes they’ve implemented in response to the pandemic, including ones that evolved into best practices they’ll continue in the “new normal” future.

Webinar – 6/17/20 – The Nose Knows: Or Does It? How Drugs Affect Scenting Ability in Dogs – ASPCAPro

Nosework is an amazing sport/activity for shelter dogs – pet owners are becoming involved in this training in record numbers.  It uses positive reinforcement, helps dogs to develop confidence and optimism and doesn’t require dogs to interact with each other to be successful.

Every day more dogs are being used by government agencies to find drugs, explosives, human remains, and other animal species. At the same time, pet owners have discovered the sport of canine nose work and are enjoying the benefits of this engaging and stimulating activity.

There is much we do not know about the canine olfaction system and what factors may influence a dog’s ability to perform scent work appropriately.

This webinar will examine the canine olfaction system and examine various drugs that may, or may not, affect scenting ability.
