This calendar is a listing of webinars, other learning opportunities, online meetings and other upcoming national events related to animal sheltering and related areas of interest.
Only some of these events are produced by the UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program. Most are being created and sponsored by other groups and agencies. Being listed here does not mean that we have reviewed the material contained. We are trying to provide a variety of resources to hopefully help make your life a little easier. California for All Animals Presents: On May 21, Dr. Ellen Jefferson and Maggie Lynch will join the call to introduce the new HASS budget calculator, which was created to address the persistent underfunding of animal services. This workshop will cover how to use the calculator tool and its results to advocate for budgets appropriate to meet the public's expectations around humane care and shelter lifesaving.
Maddie's Fund Presents: Join us on the fourth Thursday of every month as we talk about dog and cat behavior - supporting pets in our community and animal shelters. Each month, we hear from speakers about topics of interest to our group, such as behavior medications, modifying animal behavior, assessing and improving animal welfare, and how organizations successfully provide behavior support to dogs and cats.
VETGirl Presents: In this 1-hour, VETgirl small animal webinar, Dr. Lena DeTar, DACVPM, DABVP-SMP will talk about the philosophical approach to diagnostic testing and options that are commonly available in animal shelters or low-resource environments. Tune in as Dr. DeTar draws from her experience in shelters, field clinics, and access to care scenarios to provide practitioners with the tools necessary to refine/re-define their “basic” database!
Shelter Behavior Hub Presents (fee applies): This 13 week deep dive into all things shelter behavior will help you create evidence-based policy and procedures for your shelter behavior department. Weekly live mentorship meetings and a discussion community allows us all to help one another!
Community Cats Podcast Presents (small fee applies): Are you ready to be part of the solution for feral and stray cats in your neighborhood? Our expert instructors will teach you best practices for Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) and colony management. Learn what TNR is and why it works.
ACVB Presents (fee applies): The Veterinary Behavior Symposium provides a forum for sharing cutting-edge, original research in the field of animal behavior. The program will be held in-person in Minneapolis and be available virtually (live-streamed) as well.
ASPCAPro Presents: Join Dr. Groszkowski, consulting veterinarian in Clinical Toxicology at the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center, to explore potential toxicities in dogs and cats that are more commonly managed at small animal practices during the summer months. Learn about a variety of toxicities and their mechanisms of action, clinical signs, diagnostic tests, and treatments.
Community Cats Podcast Presents (small fee applies): Leave all your preconceived notions about “dumped, abandoned, or unwanted” stray cats at the door! In this workshop we will discuss simple, actionable ways that we can support owners of lost cats, be a resource to those who find cats, and increase the rate at which cats in our shelters are reunited with grateful families.
The AAWA Presents: David Denniston will explain how your organization can lessen the risk of costly and stressful liability and legal problems. He will provide sample language and policies you can use right away. This session will also explore practical strategies for inspiring a deep and lasting commitment to safety and mission-protection in your nonprofit.
CalAnimals Presents: Rabies vaccine is the ONLY vaccine among the various biologics administered to companion animals in California that is regulated under State law, and it is the responsibility of every licensed veterinarian to practice within the context of law when managing patients with respect to rabies and rabies vaccination. This scenario-based presentation has been developed to challenge participants on California regulatory/statutory issues pertaining to rabies.
